Summary: Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor or Crew Chief responsible for all high and certain low voltage electric equipment systems and system operation within the Hospital and its related buildings. Responsibilities: Performs oversees and inspects all electrical work performed by Hospital and contractor employees. Supervises testing of emergency electrical generators and distribution systems. Performs investigations to determine and locate defects in electrical systems repair electrical wiring lighting fixtures wiring devices and central equipment control. Repairs electrically operated equipment as required by work order emergency calls or direct assignment. Studies blueprints and diagrams to ascertain layout location and specification of items to be installed; prepare quantity and cost of materials required. Overcomes any problems encountered. Maintains inventory of frequently used materials. Maintains records of repairs to equipment and notifies supervisor regarding frequently repaired equipment; recommends possible replacement. Maintains high and low voltage electrical systems including transfer switches power panels fire alarm systems smoke detection systems and other alarm systems as required. Installs electrical systems controls and distribution equipment including measuring cutting bending and threading for electrical conduit assemblies. Repairs and/or replaces motors transformers switches and outlets as required. Tests electrical distribution amperage load conditions and recommends corrections where overload conditions exist. Coordinates the shut down for repairs to electrical systems. Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives. Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Miriam Hospital Facilities Management Department policy and the Fleet Risk Control Policy and Procedures. Must have a good driving record meet and maintain the appropriate and valid driver licenses in order to operate motor vehicles as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and in accordance with the Brown University Health Fleet Risk Control Policy. Performs other related duties as required. Other information: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Equivalent to completion of four years of high school or vocational training plus three years electrician apprenticeship. Knowledge of electrical building codes. Master Electrician license preferred. EXPERIENCE: Five years of Hospital related experience preferred. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: May provide technical supervision of assigned staff. Working environment exposes incumbent to heat chemicals and a variety of light and heavy equipment. Any potential hazard is minimized by adherence to safety procedures and use of protective clothing and equipment.
