EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT AND HAZARD MITIGATION AND FOR FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.Kind of Work
Under general direction, the purpose of this position is to provide specialized assistance to the Director(s) with advanced and specialized level of proficient administrative support to the Departments of Floodplain Management and Hazard Mitigation and Ecosystem and Coastal Management. Incumbent will serve as a liaison with property owners regarding grants funded by the Governor's Office of Homeland Security (GOHSEP), FEMA, CPRA, and other grant funding agencies on behalf of the departments. Provide technical guidance on grant process to citizens of Jefferson Parish for elevation, reconstruction, green infrastructure, and wind retrofit projects. Facilitate public meetings with grant applicants including but not limited to property owners and outside stakeholders. Prepare property specific files for grant application and implementation including research of an applicant's eligibility based on department established guidelines, perform field visits to photograph properties, review property ownership from assessor's site information, flood zone/square footage from parish-established maps. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
Meets one of the following options:
I. Possession of an accredited Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of paid work experience in one of the following capacities: (i) assisting with the coordination or management of a federal grant program; (ii) performing varied clerical duties, involving extensive public contact and document compilation or preparation; or (iii) serving in a supervisory customer service role, overseeing and performing duties involving extensive public contact.ORII. Possession of an accredited Associate's degree and three (3) years of paid work experience, as described in Option I.ORIII. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of paid work experience, as described in Option I.
Substitution : Possession of an accredited Master's degree may substitute for the required experience.
Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.Kind of Examination

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Tenure PaymentEmployees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.
Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan)Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to deferup to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings.Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination withoutpenalty.
