Position Summary
The Deputy Director, Power Systems Modeling will execute ACP's modeling efforts related to the U.S. electric power system. The Deputy Director will report to the Senior Director, Research & Analysis and will lead the design of key assumptions in building ACP's "base case" model. This individual will also work closely with other ACP teams and member companies to deliver robust quantitative analysis of policy and regulatory impacts on the U.S. grid and its associated generation, emissions, wholesale power prices, transmission flows, etc.
The Deputy Director must have a background in using a commercial, academic, or public capacity expansion and production simulation model. This role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with key renewable energy industry stakeholders and actively contribute to national, state, and local narratives highlighting the impact of policy changes on the clean power industry and the U.S. electricity markets. The industry is a fast-paced, emerging market and ACP's Markets & Policy Analysis team reflects that and manages priorities accordingly. The Deputy Director will need to have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to juggle simultaneous projects, and thrive in a collaborative, high performing environment.
It is a strong desire that the incumbent be local to the Washington, DC area with the ability to work on a hybrid office schedule. Accommodation may be considered based on the qualifications of the position.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.Design and oversee the major assumptions across all three U.S. Interconnects that will go into ACP's modeling efforts including analyzing standard assumptions, creating or updating ACP's own, or building off 3rd party or membership data. Key assumptions include fuel and carbon pricing, resource costs and capacity contributions, transmission capabilities, state policies, renewable policy targets, load and impacts of electrification, and reserve margins.Oversee the implementation of ACP's assumptions into a commercial power systems model and successfully execute, debug, and analyze capacity expansion and production simulation models.Developing and implementing analytical methods to assess the strength of the results, both through the models' own capabilities and developing ACP's own.Lead power system studies and market assessments to inform advocacy positions and strategic involvement.Support the association's analytical agenda through state policy research, market analysis, and advocacy.Evaluate the impact of potential and existing policies on the industry through research and analysis.Communicate power system trends to members, media, and the public.Engage with association members and stakeholders to inform policy design and strategy.Represent the industry before members, policy makers, regulators, industry, and the media, serving as both a staff expert and as a public advocate for the industry.Support the development and delivery of fact sheets and position papers on industry policy and market issues.Serve as an expert reviewer of material prepared by other internal departments such as public affairs, regulatory affairs, legislative affairs, and state affairs.Provide rapid response and analysis in response to inquiries from staff, association members, regional partners, the press, and outside stakeholders.Attend ongoing training courses and stay up to date on models, software, and relevant industry tools.Education, Experience, Skills
B.A. or B.S. degree in economics, engineering, computer science, statistics, or relevant field required. A graduate degree is highly desired.5+ years of experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis, including 2+ years working specifically with a power systems model (AURORA, PLEXOS, PROMOD, EnCompass, RESOLVE, etc.) and with expertise of U.S. electricity and energy sector required.A focus on modeling clean power and storage deployment is preferred.Track record of working with large, complex datasets and aggregating them into final inputs.Demonstrated experience leading or managing a market intelligence and analysis function that informs greater organization or industry strategy.Strong written and oral communication, tailoring information to audiences of varying technical capabilities, with the ability to present information to internal and external audiences in an effective and engaging manner.Ability to use spreadsheet and presentation software, including Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with SQL, Tableau, or Power Bi is a plus.Ability to work independently through prioritization, managing multiple projects simultaneously, finding creative solutions to issues, and taking ownership of work in a fast-paced environment.Effective interpersonal skills for collaborative teamwork.

We are a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a very ambitious agenda and a staff that is highly motivated. This position may experience high-level work demands and independent decision-making under tight timelines. Occasional travel outside of the Washington, DC area for meetings or events may be required. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. ACP will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
We reasonably believe that the base salary range for this position is $110,000 - 140,000. At ACP, a wide range of factors are considered when making compensation decisions including and not limited to skill set, experience, training, education, knowledge, and other business and organizational needs.
