Position SummaryThe Department of Physical Therapy at Western Carolina University (WCU) invites applications for a 9-month tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level. Anticipated begin work date is either January 2025 or August 2025.

Primary teaching responsibilities include instruction of entry-level DPT students with the ability to team teach in the movement system examination and musculoskeletal course series and provide clinical instruction in the MAPHealth pro-bono clinic. Additional responsibilities will include academic, service, advising, and scholarly activity consistent with accreditation standards and the mission and philosophy of the Department of Physical Therapy. Candidates must have a clinical doctorate, an earned academic doctorate, and a current ABPTS Board certification or other residency/fellowship experience that assures content expertise. Candidates with less than one year to completion of an academic doctorate will be fully considered.

The WCU physical therapy program fosters a student-centered environment where faculty place student success first and highly value diversity, inclusive excellence, and interprofessional teamwork. The program enjoys a highly dynamic, positive work/learning environment with extensive support for faculty development and excellent opportunities for collaborative teaching, service, and research. Salary and rank are commensurate with academic qualifications and experience.

The program has students and faculty in both Asheville and Cullowhee with custom designed laboratories and excellent instructional technology resources that support synchronous audio-video delivery between locations. The primary location associated with this position is in Cullowhee within the College of Health and Human Sciences. The Biltmore Park instructional site is in Asheville, 50 miles away from Cullowhee, and houses several graduate programs including physical therapy, nursing, and social work. All faculty have primary assignments but teach in both locations at times to help foster strong relationships with students.

Clinical doctorate degree (DPT) from an accredited institutionAcademic doctorate from an accredited institution - or within 1 year of completing an academic doctorate degreeABPTS board certification (OCS, SCS) and/or completed a musculoskeletal residency or fellowshipPT license with 7 years clinical experience and eligibility for PT license in the state of North Carolina - must be licensed at the time of hireTeaching

Contemporary expertise in musculoskeletal physical therapyPrior teaching experience in higher education with evidence of strong teaching skills, use of instructional technology, and commitment to learner success

Record of scholarship and/or a clear plan for a future scholarly agenda

Preferred QualificationsDemonstrated involvement in community engagement activities through specific teaching initiatives, service projects, and scholarly research contributions.
