Position SummaryThe primary location of this position is the Cullowhee, NC campus.

This position is responsible for the accuracy of graduate student records from beginning contact until degree is conferred and during the archive period. Position must have thorough knowledge of policies and procedures for the Graduate School as established by the Graduate Council, state regulations, SACS regulations as well as admission policies for graduate programs. Position is accountable for all application and graduate fees with fees credited to student accounts and expedited in a timely manner to the Controller's Office.

This position requires oversight of decisions regarding admission of applicants based on their credentials and department admissions criteria. This position must constantly interpret policy on which to base decisions on an individual case by case basis. This position is directly responsible for all application materials received with considerable care needed because these materials are irreplaceable and confidential. This position is responsible for the confidentiality of all documents received. Documents are viewed and used only by accountable representatives of Western Carolina University. This position will function at the Advanced Competency Level.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this PositionThorough knowledge of Graduate School policies and procedures; through knowledge of admission requirements for each graduate program and familiar with requirements for each program structure; must be able to deal effectively and professionally with prospective and enrolled students, faculty, and administrators, and staff; must be prompt; must be able to prioritize work; work with minimal supervision; must possess strong organizational skills; must possess strong written and oral communication skills. Extensive knowledge of Banner, Excel, Word, Outlook, is essential. Must have the ability to multi-task to complete the demands of the position; must have the ability to work under stress of deadlines during peak times of the year; must have the ability to deal effectively and pleasantly with high a volume of students requiring service from the graduate school office.
