Bus Driver

All School Bus Drivers will be initially hired on as Substitute School Bus Drivers and must complete all required driver training and testing through the Paulding County School District Transportation Department. Upon successful completion of the training and testing, candidates will be eligible to work as a Substitute School Bus Driver in the Transportation Department. They will also become eligible to transition to the position of Bus Driver as those positions become available, at the discretion of the Transportation Department.
Qualifications:
Minimum of high school diploma or GEDValid Georgia Driver's License and a Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to qualify for a Georgia CDL of appropriate class with Passenger, School Bus and Air Brake EndorsementMust hold or be eligible for a valid CPR/First Aid cardMust be able to pass state required drug screeningMust pass annual physical examinationSuch alternatives to the above qualifications that the Board may find appropriate and acceptableThe Paulding County School District reserves the right to accept alternatives to some of the above requirements

Sitting for extended periods of timeHearing and speaking to exchange informationReaching, pulling and pushing to operate air brakeBending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to inspect busesClimbing stepsReaching overhead, above the shoulders or horizontallySeeing to monitor passengers and operate a vehicleLifting a minimum of 50 poundsRepetitive pushing with right leg to operate brakeAbility to physically perform evacuation of the bus in the event of an emergencyDuties and Responsibilities:
Knowledge of laws, policies and procedures as stated in the Driver Reference GuideKnowledge of the operation and maintenance of school buses to transport students safely and efficientlyPerforms daily pre and post trip inspectionsKnowledge of the preparation of a variety of records and reports related to assignmentOperates bus using legal safe defensive driving practicesKnowledge of district policies and procedures pertaining to student disciplineOperate a school bus along a designated routePicks up and discharges general and special education students in accordance with time schedulesAssures compliance with applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes and regulationsMaintains order and discipline among passengers on the bus and while waiting at bus stopsMaintains bus in a clean and safe operating conditionRefuels and prepares vehicle for operationAssists handicapped students with boarding, sitting and leaving the bus safelyMaintains video surveillance monitor equipmentMeets scheduled departure and arrival times as assignedAdministers first aid to passengers as neededIt is the policy of the Paulding County School District not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, or disability in any employment practice, educational program, or any other program, activity, or service.Vacancies posted for a minimum of ten (10) calendar days.
