Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION :

Performs complex activity in the performance, administration and supervision of diagnostic, habilitative and rehabilitative services to patients with auditory impairments, in order to assist them towards the attainment of greater aural effectiveness and ameliorate the emotional and psychological adjustment to such disorders. Performs related work.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES :

Evaluate, diagnose, and treat hearing and balance disorders. Develops a treatment plan that considers the impact the disability is having on the patient.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES :

Under general supervision, with wide latitude for independent judgment, an employee at this higher level of expertise performs some of the major duties and Level I and, in addition, may perform the following tasks:1. Evaluates and treats patients with more complex hearing problems. Sets treatment goals, observes and documents progress and makes adjustments to therapy programs of patients in personal case load.2. Performs and interprets more difficult diagnostic procedures including but not necessarily limited to brain stem response audiometry and ENG.3. May coordinate total patient hearing environment by working with school professionals, health care professionals, families and support groups. Recommends appropriate specialized educational institutions and special programs. May identify financial care and reimbursement eligibility, and expedites corresponding applications.4. Acts as a role model and mentor to less experienced Speech and Audiology staff. Advises less experienced staff in making more complex clinical assessment and treatment of patients. Performs clinical supervision of practicum students and audiologist clinicians. Assists in reviewing the treatment plans of less experienced staff.5. Instructs health care personnel in the principles and basis of Audiology, including clinical techniques and patient care management.6. May coordinate, and contributes to, the development of clinical practice programs for students in Audiology and related disciplines. May participate in the instruction and supervision of students.7. May coordinate the scheduling of in-service programs or other specialized activities.8. Acts as a resource to other departments upon request. Assists in writing departmental brochures and other descriptive program material.9. Attends workshops, conferences, classes and demonstrations of new developments in the field of Audiology. Recommends improvements in departmental procedures, training and organization to integrate new techniques into daily practice.10. Assists in the implementation of changes in departmental procedure.11. Performs related duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Level I1. A Master's Degree in Audiology from an accredited college or university, including three-hundred hours of supervised clinical experience in Audiology; and,2. A New York State license in Audiology; and,3. One year of full-time, paid, professional experience within the last five years beyond the licensure in the practice of Audiology in a hospital, health care, rehabilitation or related facility.

Level II1. A Master's Degree in Audiology from an accredited college or university including 300 hours of supervised clinical experience in audiology, and2. A New York State License in Audiology, and3. Holds the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology and4. Two years of full time paid professional experience within the last five years beyond the licensure, in the practice of Audiology in a hospital, health care, rehabilitation or related facility.

Department Preferences

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:• Excellent bedside manner• Ability to communicate well with patients, despite potential hearing loss.• Speaking a second language is preferable (Spanish or Chinese)

CERTIFICATION(S)/LICENSE(S):

Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:• A Master's Degree in Audiology from an accredited college or university including 300 hours of supervised clinical experience in audiology, and• A New York State license in Audiology; and,• Holds the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology and• Two years of full time paid professional experience within the last five years beyond the licensure, in the practice of Audiology in a hospital, health care, rehabilitation or related facility.
