General Definition of WorkPerforms semiskilled work transporting students to and from school and events, and related work as apparent orassigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Director of Special Education and Student Services.
Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Therequirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonableaccommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Essential FunctionsTransports students safely to and from home.Conducts safe and orderly loading and unloading of students at specified destination.Maintains student discipline in the car and enforce rules governing student conduct by reporting undisciplinedstudents to the proper authority.Maintains clean, safe surroundings, and ensures appropriate behavior.Performs routine operator care to include: checking equipment and reporting problems (pre-trip inspection), and presenting car for regularly scheduled maintenance.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesGeneral knowledge of operating a vehicle; general knowledge of the geography of the District and the location ofstreets; skill in the safe operation of a motor vehicles; ability to detect malfunctioning equipment; ability to assist children using patience and understanding; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, students, parents and the general public.Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED and minimal experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Physical RequirementsThis work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking orhearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionallyrequires standing, walking, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements;vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveyingdetailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information atnormal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspectioninvolving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observinggeneral surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to vibration and occasionally requires workingnear moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions andexposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work isgenerally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).Special RequirementsValid commercial driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
