General Definition of WorkPerforms intermediate professional work evaluating special needs of students, designing and implementing appropriate therapies, preparing and maintaining appropriate records, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Director of Student Services.

Essential FunctionsAssesses student physical functioning and the impact of any physical impairments on the student's education; receives and reviews student referrals; conducts, administers, scores and interprets assessments for children with gross motor, fine motor, self-help and sensory concerns and issues.Assists with the development, revision and monitoring of student's individual educational plan; writes and develops IEP's (Individual Education Plans) for children who qualify for OT services; determines client needs, outcomes and how these can be met; maintains case management records, case records, progress notes, case documentation and other records requirement local, state or federal agencies.Provides occupational services, training and therapy to students in the use and care of adaptive equipment, curriculum materials, behavioral plans and environmental and physical functioning.Collaborates with, refers and coordinates additional services and student needs with medical service providers and negotiates agreements with those providers.Selects, orders or purchases special equipment and monitors the use of the equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of specialty area; thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of providing effective therapy for special needs students; thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, students and parents.
Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in occupational therapy, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical RequirementsThis work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling and occasionally requires standing, climbing or balancing, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a very quiet location (e.g. park trail, storage or file room).
Special RequirementsLicensed Minnesota Registered Occupational Therapist.Experience working in a multi cultural setting and with diverse groups of people preferred.Alternatives to the qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable will also be considered.Valid driver's license in the State of Minnesota.
