Internal posting period: 10/29/24-11/5/24 Interested applicants should apply online at www.colheights.k12.mn.us Questions regarding this position should be directed to James Phillipi, Manager of Buildings and Grounds, phillipjcolheights.k12.mn.us Interviews will be scheduled at the request of the School District Performs intermediate skilled trades work conducting vehicle maintenance; maintaining and ordering shop inventory; cleaning and maintaining shop; performing custodial duties; performing grounds worker duties, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Manager of Buildings and Grounds. Essential Functions Inspects and repairs all district vehicles to assure compliance with safety requirements and guidelines; repairs equipment. Conducts preventative maintenance on vehicles; troubleshoots and diagnoses; services and repairs vehicles; maintains all maintenance records. Assists with the pick-up and delivery of mail, food supplies to sites, and bank runs for sites. Supports District passenger vans (maintenance and check-in/check-out procedures). Supports buildings as needed as a District Custodian. Performs all duties normally associated with the position of Groundskeeper such as lawn maintenance, equipment operation and maintenance, or other playground area maintenance, including raking, mowing, sweeping, cleaning, re-sodding, fertilizing, painting, snow or trash removal to ensure a safe, clean, and attractive environment. Prune, trim, shape, fertilize and plant shrubs, trees, or other decorative plants in order to maintain landscapes. Maintain inventories of shop supplies and turf care products and participate in selection and purchase of equipment and supplies. Responsible for all maintenance, repair, and operation of irrigation systems throughout the School District. Conducts snow removal district wide Other job-related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of the operation and repair of components, systems and accessories of school district vehicles and other school equipment; thorough knowledge of tools and equipment including gauges, machinery and shop equipment used in the repair, servicing, and maintenance of transit equipment. General skill operating a personal computer and applicable office software; some skill operating cleaning equipment and grounds and building maintenance equipment. Ability to detect by inspection any worn, defective or improperly adjusted parts; ability to follow oral and written instructions and to keep records of repair and service operations; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, students, parents and the general public. High School diploma or GED and moderate experience working as a mechanic providing a wide variety of mechanical inspections and repairs, or equivalent combination of mechanical education and experience. Associates/Technical degree preferred. Physical Requirements This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling, frequently requires speaking or hearing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, lifting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting and climbing or balancing; work requires close vision and color perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electrical shock, frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to vibration and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). Special Requirements Experience working as a mechanic providing a wide variety of mechanical inspections and repairs, or equivalent combination of education and experience Class C, Low Pressure, Special Grade Boilers License within six (6) months of hire. 2nd Class Boilers License preferred. Bobcat Skid Steer Training Instructor Certification required within six (6) months of hire. Must be willing and able to work hours other than the regular shift as needed for snow removal including weekends and holidays Experience working in a multi-cultural setting and with diverse groups of people preferred. Alternatives to the qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable will also be considered. Valid driver's license in the State of Minnesota.
