Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Supervise the staff on the General Accounting team to ensure all required close activities are performed on time and at a high-level of quality and accuracy. This General Accounting team is the primary group responsible for the month-end financial close process, including recording the majority of journal entries, accruals/estimates and performing account reconciliations.
Support the General Accounting Manager in maintaining and enhancing PeopleSoft master data; partnering with master data counterparts within FCCS (Financial Reporting) and ePBCS (FP&A)
Review/approve journal entries prepared by team members. Prepare higher-risk journal entries for review by the General Accounting Manager.
Partner with the Cost Accounting (Overhead Allocation) team to ensure OH-related accruals remain complete and accurate.
Review/approve account reconciliations performed by team members, as well as prepare higher-risk account reconciliations (for review by the General Accounting Manager), and ensure all required account reconciliations are performed and finalized timely.
Facilitate day-to-day interactions/support of external auditors, particularly through the year-end reporting cycle.
Coordinate with international accounting functions in Australia and New Zealand.
Partner with Corporate Development regarding any general accounting matters related to recent acquisitions/divestments.
Work with technical accounting department to determine proper accounting for complex transactions.
Key contributor to identify and realize efficiencies and innovation opportunities within the monthly financial close, account reconciliation and financial reporting processes; supporting our department’s core mission to modernize and streamline these processes.
Handle other responsibilities, as needed, such as project/system implementation support.
Requirements:
BS in Accounting.
CPA (Preferred, but not required).
Minimum of 3 years in accounting (or similar) experience with increasing responsibilities directly involved in the financial close process; additional/more senior experience preferred
Large, public company experience is a plus.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Works well with team members / able to motivate and get the best out of individuals.
Able to delegate.
Able to contribute creatively to a vision of “what could be”, not just focused on “what is/has been”
Contribute to and supervise the execution of a project plan, with an ability to effectively drive it to completion
Experience using modern ERP’s such as SAP or Oracle, consolidation tools (e.g. FCCS) and financial planning tools (e.g. ePBCS) is preferred
Good social skills in dealing with internal personnel, auditors, etc.
