The Youth Development Leader will provide youth development activities in five core areas to students enrolled in after school and summer programs in one or more Genesee County school districts for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program.Essential Duties
Must be able to engage students in meaningful learning opportunities.Maintains a positive classroom atmosphere by utilizing effective classroom management methods.Maintains a physically and emotionally safe program environment.Participates in training related to the program and the delivery of youth development activities.Works closely with program coordinator to provide activities that support the learning environment of the school.Works with students to build leadership skills and to promote positive youth development.Lead activities in 6-8 week sessions for K-12 grade students in the GISD Bridges to Success program.Must be able to embed Common Core Standards into program activities.Adhere to program and grant documentation requirements.Works cooperatively with program coordinator to build collaborative relationships with building staff, parents, students and community representatives.Assists in recruiting participants for program activities.Organizes and maintains program resources including curriculum, food, supplies and equipment.Works with coordinator to schedule, plan and implement all programs and activities.Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with students, school staff and the building principal, as well as the staff of GISD.Attends required staff meetings.Maintains accurate records, including attendance, timesheets, task sheets and other required documentation.Works with the program coordinator to identify current and future program goals.Maintains positive school/community relations.Other Duties
Performs other related duties as assigned.Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree or certificate as a Child Development Associate with at least twelve (12) semester hours in elementary education, recreation, community education or child development preferred.Experience:
Minimum of three years related experience in a leadership position or with an organization responsible for providing services to families and children preferred.Skills/Other:
Ability to lead and engage students in a variety of settings. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as an effective team member. Evidence of accurate record keeping, financial management and data collection skills. Ability to utilize district technology, and work to maintain proficiency, as required skill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district. Ability to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with program goals. Maintains a positive working relationship with parents/guardians and staff. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Ability to work a flexible workday and work week. Strong teamwork, interpersonal communication and problem solving skills. Ability to maintain positive working relationships with team members. Discretion with confidential information. Exercises good judgment and makes decisions in accordance with board policies and established administrative guidelines. Demonstrated mental/physical ability and stamina necessary to meet the essential/other duties of the job.Special Job Considerations
