Your success is our success.JOB SUMMARY:The Avionics Software Engineer is a highly-motivated and self-driven team player capable of performing in a dynamic prototyping environment. The preferred candidate will understand and employ current software design methodologies and have a strong desire for innovation. This candidate is an experienced software engineer with broad technical knowledge, who can design and develop software from requirements, lead root-cause analysis, communicate options for resolution and provide recommendations for software defects.The Avionics Software Engineer at TRU is responsible for the development, integration, testing, acceptance, and discrepancy resolution of software for avionics systems as they pertain to the aircraft being simulated. This position will work closely with the OEM, test pilots, and supporting documentation to ensure the models are functionally identical to the real aircraft.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Design, develop, integrate, test, and document software ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements for avionics systems, including:Flight Controls SystemsNavigation SystemsCommunication SystemsFlight Management System (FMS)Engine Monitoring SystemsGlass Cockpit DisplaysWeather Radar SystemsTerrain Awareness and Warning Systems (TAWS)Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS)Collaborate with cross functional engineers to meet project requirementsDevelop acceptance test procedures to validate the functionality and performance of software modelsRecommend, incorporate, and/or alter new and existing simulator designs and documentationPerform hardware/software integration and testing on flight simulator training devices ensuring seamless operation and interaction with other simulator componentsProvide engineering staff with recommendations for software/hardware enhancements by staying updated with the latest advancements in aircraft systems, avionics technology, and simulation methodologiesResearch and analyze data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or applicationEDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree required in Aerospace, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field.5+ years of software engineering or relative experience requiredQUALIFICATIONS:Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ with experience developing physics-based modelsProficiency with Unix/Linux Operating SystemsUnderstanding of aircraft systems and avionics principlesFamiliarity with Aviation terminology and/or Flight Simulation experienceExperience with designing computer system interfaces at the driver levelExperience with multiple interfacing protocols including: UDP, TCP/IP, MIL-STD 1553, ARINC-429, RS-232/422Capable of conducting hardware testing with test tools such as Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Function Generator, etc.Knowledge of software development methodologies, version control systems, and software testing practicesStrong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and debug complex software systemsExcellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teamsAttention to detail and a passion for delivering high quality software products in a dynamic environmentSome travel requiredThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this job.
