IBM, Cambridge, Massachusetts, us, 02140
IntroductionAt IBM, work is more than a job - it's a calling: To build. To design. To code. To consult. To think along with clients and sell. To make markets. To invent. To collaborate. Not just to do something better, but to attempt things you've never thought possible. Are you ready to lead in this new era of technology and solve some of the world's most challenging problems? If so, lets talk.
Your Role and ResponsibilitiesThis is for a 2025 summer internship with the following start dates: May - August or June - September for quarter system schools. The Network engineering internship will focus on various work and tasks related to data network infrastructure automation and engineering. The primary focus of this internship will be to build network automation solutions, simplifying network operational processes and workflows. The candidate will also have the opportunity to build, deploy, maintain and manage network infrastructure and network security devices in a multi-vendor, hybrid cloud, heterogeneous Cisco, Palo Alto and Infoblox TCP/IP based networking environment. Implement and integrate the principles of network reliability engineering into your work.
Design and build network automation solutions based on Ansible and Tufin for Palo Alto and Cisco environments.Automate network engineering processes and workflows to increase the operational agility of network engineering operations.Build, deploy, maintain, and manage network infrastructure (routers, aggregation switches).Build, deploy, maintain, and manage Next Generation security platforms (FW, IPS).On all systems maintain, apply and assure a strong security posture, currency levels and compliance according to IBM security standards and requirements.Monitor, troubleshoot, mitigate, and resolve network infrastructure problems and service interruptions.Collect data, then supply it to engineering peer teams for analysis and data-driven recommendations and decision making.Master and utilize various IBM and vendor network utilities.Create and provide recurring network reports based on network statistics and analytics.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise- Candidate should be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree.- Network Automation skills using Ansible, JSON, RestAPI, Jenkins.- Ability to build, deploy and maintain networking devices in a heterogeneous TCP/IP network environment (Cisco, Palo Alto, Infoblox, Cloud).- Ability to rack and cable connect networking equipment.- Ability to apply, maintain and assure security currency levels, security posture and compliance on devices.- Software programming / scripting skills (Python, Go Language).- Creativity, attention to detail, and flexibility.- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise- Knowledge of Tufin and PA Panorama Platforms.- Knowledge of the principles of network reliability engineering.- Cisco CCNA, Palo Alto or Equivalent Certification.- Experience working with Cisco based network service and authentication platforms (PRIME, ISE).- Multi-Cloud Networking.- Experience with Infoblox Appliances.
