Position Title: Project Engineer

Term: 40 hours/week, full-time

Start Date: Q3 2024

Summary: The focus of this position is to advance the development of next-generation hardware technologies for distributed wastewater management and resource recovery systems.

Brightwater Tools is a startup developing novel building-scale systems that recover resources from wastewater, initially funded by the National Science Foundation.

As we continue to push the boundaries of innovation, we’re seeking a talented Project Engineer to join our passionate team.

Job Summary:

The Project Engineer will design, develop, and implement advanced wastewater management solutions. This role involves working with emerging technologies, conducting research, and collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver packaged, innovative water management systems that meet regulatory standards and sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Development:

Pairing Brightwaters’ innovative water treatment technologies with partner systems for full scale implementation.

Conduct feasibility studies and pilot projects to evaluate new technologies.

Develop detailed project plans, specifications, and cost estimates.

Research and Innovation:

Stay updated with the latest advancements in water treatment technologies.

Conduct research and development activities to create new or improved water treatment methods.

Collaborate with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry partners.

System Design and Implementation:

System integration of Brightwater Tools’ novel technologies with related products to provide full building-scale packaged options for new construction.

Conduct process modeling for system specification.

Design and oversee the implementation of advanced water treatment systems.

Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software and other engineering tools.

Ensure systems are designed for scalability and efficiency.

Regulatory Compliance and Standards:

Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and standards.

Prepare and submit necessary permits and documentation.

Stay informed about regulatory changes and emerging industry standards.

Project Management:

Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources.

Perform financial modeling.

Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Monitor construction progress and address any issues that arise.

Schedule meetings and logistics.

Technical Support and Troubleshooting:

Provide technical guidance and support to the project team and clients.

Conduct field inspections and site assessments.

Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems related to water treatment systems.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

Work closely with municipal authorities, clients, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and expectations.

Conduct public meetings and presentations as needed.

Quality Control and Assurance:

Implement quality control measures to ensure project standards are met.

Conduct regular inspections and tests of materials and equipment.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain detailed project documentation, including reports, drawings, and records.

Prepare and present project progress reports to stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience: 3-5 years of experience in water treatment engineering or a related field, with a focus on innovative technologies.

Licenses: Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Skills:

Strong knowledge of advanced wastewater treatment processes and emerging technologies.

Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) software and other engineering design tools.

Excellent project management and organizational skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to work in a variety of environments, including office settings and construction sites.

Willingness to travel to project sites and conferences as needed.

Commitment to environmental sustainability and public health.

Employment Type and location:

Full-time

Brattleboro, Vermont. Some remote work is possible.
