Summary:

Responsible for developing and maintaining the database structure that supports the bank's operations. Designs and documents database schemas, writes and debugs stored procedures, while optimizing query performance. This position requires the ability to design database systems that store and provide secure access to customer and financial information.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in a computer related discipline.

Experience:

Five years of experience in the card payment industry in a database role. Experience with data visualization and big data analytics tools such as Tableau, Hive, and Power BI. Experience with developing complex ETL in Data Processing environments. Knowledge of multiple database technologies such as mySQL, SQL Server, and cloud services like AWS and Snowflake. Experience with relational and non-relational database platforms.

Essential Functions:

Designs and develops banking solutions for data and reporting needs.

Works with the Manager of Data Analytics and Operations (DAO) to ensure that the Sutton Bank database aligns with the overall needs of data stakeholders.

Collaborates on the design of database architecture and configures databases to meet the institution's functional requirements.

Assists in test environment data requirements setup and maintenance, testing, and validation.

Assists with designing new data pipelines as part of onboarding additional payment processors, programs, and third-party data sources.

Works with Manager DAO to investigate and resolve application and data integrity issues.

Builds high-quality processes that adhere to the software development lifecycle.

Utilizes source control for migration of code changes through SDLC.

Thoroughly understands the processes provided on the Sutton Data Lake.

Creates database tables, views, and stored procedures.

Performs data modeling to design efficient database systems.

Updates and creates database objects such as tables, views, stored procedures, and security credentials to store and access business data.

Establishes backup, recovery, and disaster prevention procedures to ensure data continuity.

Develops, implements, and maintains database security.

Develops and executes Structured Query Language (SQL) scripts to manage and manipulate data.

Monitors and optimizes the performance of databases.

Installs and configures snowflake cloud computing technologies.

Creates documentation to ensure databases adhere to industry standards.

Produces monthly and quarterly reports from database query results.

Updates and maintains the Sutton Bank Data Lineage tool.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

The ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both in verbal and written communications.

Strong knowledge of the Payments Industry and/or card processing.

A demonstrated understanding of the financial services industry.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must have the ability to analyze and solve complex problems, develop automated systems.

Self-directed and motivated.

Proven ability to support multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.

Excellent problem-solving skills.

Ability to articulate technical concepts both written and oral.

Ability to read, analyze and comprehend general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, audit reports, or governmental regulations.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, vendors, and management staff.

Ability to effectively present information to individuals one-on-one or in a small group setting.

Ability to learn new languages and technologies.

Ability to work with SQL to develop IDEs.

Ability to work with database technologies like mySQL, Oracle, SQL Server.

Ability to manipulate data for meaningful reporting.

Must be a self-starter with the ability to work effectively, both independently and in team settings, to include close collaboration with Processors.

Excellent understanding of database concepts including normalization and relational data models.
