We are seeking an Asphalt Project Engineer to join our construction team. This position involves calculating daily laydown costs, coordinating with subcontractors, tracking and updating asphalt backlog, sending out daily and 3-week schedules, and ensuring accurate tracking of project quantities. The Asphalt Project Engineer will also assist estimators with change orders and perform various other duties as needed.Responsibilities:
Cost Calculation and Analysis:
Calculate daily laydown costs for paving and milling crews.Monitor project expenditures to ensure they align with budgetary constraints.Provide detailed cost reports to management.
Project Coordination:
Assist in managing the load board and scheduling tasks.Coordinate activities with subcontractors, including striping, rumble strips, and other related work.Ensure that all subcontractor activities are completed on time and meet quality standards.
Quantity Tracking:
Accurately track quantities of materials used on projects.Maintain detailed records of work performed and materials used.Prepare quantity summaries for project reporting.Assist estimators with preparing and processing change orders.Provide accurate data and support for project estimations.Ensure all change orders are documented and communicated effectively.
Quality Control and Compliance:
Ensure all project activities comply with safety, quality, and environmental standards.Conduct site inspections to verify work meets project specifications.Address any issues or discrepancies in a timely manner.
Communication and Collaboration:
Maintain effective communication with project managers, crew leaders, and subcontractors.Participate in project meetings and provide updates on project status.Foster a collaborative work environment.
Additional Duties:
Perform any other duties as deemed appropriate for the role by management.Adapt to changing project requirements and take on new tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.2+ years of experience in asphalt paving, construction, or a similar industry.Strong analytical skills and proficiency in cost calculation.Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.Familiarity with construction management software and tools.Effective communication and interpersonal skills.Proficient with Excel and Microsoft Teams.Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as required.Working Conditions:
The position may require working outdoors in various weather conditions.The role may involve physical activities such as walking on uneven surfaces, standing for extended periods, and lifting materials up to 50 pounds.The posted salary or pay compensation ranges are approximate and dependent on applicable experience and qualifications.
