Over the last 60 years, Alpha Southwest has grown into the largest deep-set turbine and water well contractor in New Mexico and far west Texas. Our facility located in Albuquerque has supply and service capabilities for booster pumps and wells, electrical switchgear and controls, and electric motors. Alpha Southwest also maintains an operational facility in El Paso, TX with similar capabilities. Pipestone Equipment is in its 16th year of business as a valve solution and engineered water products provider within the municipal markets in the Rocky Mountain region (Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico) and Great Plains region (North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota). Alpha Southwest and Pipestone Equipment are sister companies, and with the combined capabilities of seven locations, they are market leaders in the distribution & manufacturing of pumps, valves, pumping stations, and water system equipment. Together we are able to serve the municipal, industrial, and commercial markets as well as OEM accounts. We design, manufacture, and sell custom pump systems and complete pump stations for all industries, including wells, sewage lift stations, water booster stations, and chemical metering systems. We are currently looking for an experienced, creative, customer service oriented Senior Application Engineer based in Albuquerque. The right person will show a combination of experience, knowledge, great attention to detail, and high energy to successfully work in our highly fast-paced, positive, and rewarding environment.Responsibilities include:Working as part of a team of sales and service personnel, sharing knowledge, supporting each other, and being committed to working together to achieve the common goal of delivering premier customer service.Being available and responsive to customers in person, over the phone, via text, and through email correspondence while working through sometimes challenging problems and projects.Strengthening relationships with existing customers by providing help, information, and guidance.Partnering with the sales team and manufacturers to select the proper equipment.Sizing and selecting all types of pumps and valves for the water, wastewater, industrial process, food processing, and petro-chemical markets to meet customer specifications.Scheduling and providing technical training sessions to support project design efforts.Collaborating with engineers to generate specifications for pump and valve systems to meet the application needs of the market.Using pricing tools and following internal processes to secure costs for large bids and opportunities.Developing detailed and accurate quotes, submittals, and BOMs for customers.Following up on bids and opportunities to ensure customer satisfaction and requesting feedback.Project management of sold pumping systems, valves, surge protection, instrumentation, and controls equipment from time of order, through design, submittal, purchasing, manufacturing, delivery, and final startup.Startup activities will include calibration, adjustments, testing, and customer training.Continuing education of represented pump and valve products which may include traveling to manufacturer’s sites for training.Developing innovative pump and valve system solutions based on the needs of the customer.Qualifications:A practical understanding of fluid dynamics is required.Math skills are required, including basic algebra and the ability to read graphs.Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills.Proficient computer skills are required, including Microsoft Office suite.Travel for sales calls, regional conferences, site visits, or off-site training will be required.Ability to multitask between multiple projects, quotes, training, and other job duties as assigned.Experience working with customers in defining product needs.Strong attention to detail balanced by the ability to prioritize activities is required.Ability to problem solve and arrive at an optimized solution.Strong project and time management skills; may be required to attend additional PM training.A Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering (BSME) is preferred.Engineering, manufacturing, or system operations background preferred in pump, valve and fluid system hydraulics or related systems.5-10 years progressively responsible experience in the design of fluid system equipment.Deep set and short-set turbine pump application engineering background is preferred.Control valve application engineering background is preferred.Direct experience with customers in a sales support role is preferred.Knowledge of electrical systems, control systems, and/or SCADA is a plus.AutoCAD or SolidWorks experience is a plus.Professional engineers license is a plus.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job. The position is primarily a sedentary one, with some walking and stair climbing required at the office and for customer and jobsite visits. Occasional bending & stooping with lifting of up to 30 pounds will be required. It is expected that the Senior Applications Engineer will be in the field at customer facilities and may be required to use hand or power tools from time to time.Job Type:
