Over the last 60 years, Alpha Southwest has grown into the largest deep-set turbine and water well contractor in New Mexico and far West Texas. Our headquarters are in Albuquerque and have supply and service capabilities for booster pumps and wells, electrical switchgear and controls, and electric motors. Alpha Southwest also maintains an operational facility in El Paso, TX. We serve the municipal, industrial, and commercial markets.
We seek an experienced, creative, customer service-oriented Senior Application Engineer based in Albuquerque with a groundwater pump and service industry background. The right person will show a combination of experience, knowledge, great attention to detail, and high energy to successfully work in our highly fast-paced, positive, and rewarding environment.
Responsibilities include:
Working with customers, suppliers, and co-workers to design and develop engineered solutions for our customers.
Aligning customer-based specifications with potential water equipment, such as pumps and motors.
Being available and responsive to customers in person, over the phone, via text, and through email correspondence.
Strengthening relationships with existing customers by providing help, information, and guidance.
Partnering with the sales team and manufacturers to select the proper equipment.
Sizing and selecting all types of pumps and valves for various markets.
Scheduling and providing technical training sessions to support project design efforts.
Collaborating with engineers to generate specifications for pump and valve systems.
Using pricing tools and following internal processes to secure costs for large bids and opportunities.
Developing detailed and accurate quotes, submittals, and BOMs for customers.
Following up on bids and opportunities to ensure customer satisfaction and request feedback.
Project management of sold pumping systems, valves, surge protection, instrumentation, and control equipment.
Start-up activities including calibration, adjustments, testing, and customer training.
Continuing education of represented pump and valve products.
Developing innovative pump and valve system solutions based on the customer's needs.
Qualifications:
8-10 years Engineering & Evaluations: pump, valve, and fluid dynamics required.
Math skills are required, including basic algebra, trend analysis, and reading graphs.
Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
Proficient computer skills are required, including Microsoft Office suite.
Travel for sales calls, regional conferences, site visits, or off-site training will be required.
Ability to multitask between multiple projects, quotes, training, and other job duties as assigned.
Experience working with customers to define product needs.
Strong attention to detail balanced by the ability to prioritize activities is required.
Ability to problem-solve and arrive at an optimized solution.
Strong project and time management skills.
A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) is preferred.
Engineering, manufacturing, or system operations background preferred in pump, valve, and fluid hydraulics.
5-10 years of progressively responsible experience in the design of fluid system equipment.
Deep-set and short-set turbine pump application engineering background is preferred.
Control valve application engineering background is preferred.
Direct experience with customers in a sales support role is preferred.
Knowledge of electrical systems, control systems, and/or SCADA is a plus.
AutoCAD or SolidWorks experience is a plus.
A Professional Engineer license is a plus.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job. The position is primarily sedentary, with some walking and stair climbing required at the office and for customer and job site visits. Occasional bending and stooping, as well as lifting up to 30 pounds, will be required.
This position works from the Albuquerque, NM office.
