Autonomy Engineer - Simulations
Voiceflow, Lansing, Michigan, United States,
May Mobility is transforming cities through autonomous technology to create a safer, greener, more accessible world. Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, May develops and deploys autonomous vehicles (AVs) powered by our innovative Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) technology that literally reimagines the way AVs think.
Our vehicles do more than just drive themselves - they provide value to communities, bridge public transit gaps and move people where they need to go safely, easily and with a lot more fun. We’re building the world’s best autonomy system to reimagine transit by minimizing congestion, expanding access and encouraging better land use in order to foster more green, vibrant and livable spaces.
Since our founding in 2017, we’ve given more than 300,000 autonomy-enabled rides to real people around the globe. And we’re just getting started. We’re hiring people who share our passion for building the future, today, solving real-world problems and seeing the impact of their work. Join us.
Job SummaryThe Autonomy Development and Infrastructure Team is responsible for building and maintaining a suite of tools used to test and validate the safety and comfort of our autonomous vehicle fleet. These tools provide some of the most important leading indicators of vehicle performance and reliability.
Due to the high degree of autonomy of our fleet, the simulation suite often provides the first insight into performance degradation or to identify new areas to enhance our operation. We build the tooling around this product to include custom performance indicators and tests, robustness measures, and data analysis.
You will have an opportunity to independently impact our approach to solving the most interesting problems facing AV’s today, with vehicles operating daily in the real world.
Essential Responsibilities
Enhance our existing simulation suite to provide additional value to the autonomy development team using a variety of statistical and heuristic analysis techniques.
Maintain our continuous development and integration suite.
Implement user facing interfaces for employees to utilize our simulation infrastructure and provide insight into autonomy performance.
Perform data analysis of simulation and real world vehicle performance using modern DataFrame libraries.
Partner with our vehicle autonomy, operations, and platform teams to improve performance and address software needs across the organization.
Write high performance, generic libraries to make our simulation software as fast and scalable as possible.
Build and manage large-scale simulation pipelines in a cloud environment.
Skills and AbilitiesSuccess in this role typically requires the following competencies:
Excellent attention to detail and rigorous testing methodology.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications and ExperienceCandidates most successful in this role typically hold the following qualifications or comparable knowledge or experience:
Required
B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent degree.
Experience working in Python, C, C++, and/or Rust.
Strong working knowledge of design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
Experience designing, building, and expanding complex software systems with real-time and performance constraints.
Previous experience developing in Linux environments or ability to adapt to this environment.
Experience with robotics, automotive engineering, or start-ups is not required.
Desirable
M.S or Ph.D. Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another related technical field.
A minimum of 5 years of industry experience.

Experience in some form of real-time simulation platform development and integration (game engine, autonomous vehicle simulation, etc…).
Significant experience with data science tools in python (e.g. numpy, scipy, scikit-learn) is a plus.
Rust experience is a plus.
Experience with Applied Intuition simulation software suite a plus (Simian, Logstream, Spectral, etc…).
Physical Requirements
Standard office working conditions which includes but is not limited to:
Prolonged sitting.
Prolonged standing.
Prolonged computer use.
Travel required? - Minimal: 1%-10%.
