Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) location, the Estimator/Applications Engineer will report to the Estimating Supervisor of the Sales & Estimating department. The Estimator/Applications Engineer will be responsible for competitive technical proposals and accurate cost estimates of switchgear and electrical buildings. This position also provides functional support to the sales and execution team.

Essential Responsibilities

Reviews customer project documentation including: specification, data sheets and drawings to gain a complete understanding of the project’s requirement from a technical and commercial perspective.

Develops detailed and comprehensive proposals that accurately depict a proper understanding of the project’s requirements while also complying with customer specifications, industry standards, and applicable local codes.

Provides suitable comments and or exceptions necessary to convey a clear message to our customers regarding Powell’s compliance with the requirements of the project.

Creates Basis of Estimate and Basis of Schedule documents to accompany the estimate.

Acquires and provides technical leadership to supporting departments such as sales and other stakeholders.

Works with various project teams to facilitate the use of estimating tools and processes to produce accurate, reputable proposals.

Prepares and presents overviews of proposals to clients and internal stakeholders as required.

Reviews product specific cost data and conduct appropriate analysis using statistical tools and performance measurements; works with the production engineering staff; manufacturing engineering, and operations departments in order to institute accurate labor and material forecasting factors into pricing systems.

Understanding of cost estimating concepts, techniques and work flows including documentation of estimate input data and version control.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in an Electrical Engineering discipline or a C.E.T. designation from an accredited technical institute, college or University.

Valid Journeyman Ticket is considered an asset.

Familiarity with Metal Building Systems and Electrical Switchgear is considered an asset.

1-3 years of experience in an Estimating is considered an asset.

Experience with vendors and components for common commercial/industrial power distribution, motor controls, process control, and lighting projects.

Previous experience with AutoCAD and advance Excel is preferred.

Working in front of a computer for the majority of the shift.
