DescriptionGeneral Responsibilities:As a Software Field Application Engineer, you will be responsible for customer support. The Field Application Engineer will interface with customers on a day-to-day basis to assist customers with Hitachi’s product. You will be the main interface for customers from the program kickoff to launch and post-production support. You will be responsible mainly for software release and troubleshooting customer issues in either bench environments or in customer vehicles.Job Responsibilities:The main duties and responsibilities include the following:Provide on-site support when requested by customers, which can include onsite flashing of software or debugging of issues on customer bench or vehicle.Meet with customers to understand their requirements and the scope of their application functionalities, and how that integrates with our software design. Discuss issues and requirements and transfer all details in a well-defined manner to all concerned stakeholders.Build and improve relationships with key customer contacts to gain their trust and improve customer satisfaction, enabling us to understand future customer needs.Lead all customer-reported issues, whether on bench or field. Ensure resolution to problems by coordinating with the design engineering team and the customer. Provide weekly status updates to the customer on all open issues. Create 8D/5D and Root cause documentation.Take the lead in communication between customers and Hitachi internal teams such as design engineering, plant, logistics, and QA.Support customer field trips.Assist the team with software baseline creation, software release, and integration testing.Coordinate meetings between Hitachi and customer teams for design reviews or customer issues.Qualifications:The ideal candidate will:Have 7+ years of experience in designing and coding embedded software using C.Have 2+ years of experience as a field application engineer/resident engineer or in a customer support role.Be familiar with microcontrollers, specifically 32-bit automotive multi-core micros such as Renesas E2x/RH850 family, Infineon Aurix TCxx family, and NXP MPC55xx family.Be experienced with software development tools including Lauterbach T32 debuggers, CAN development tools like CANalyzer and CANape, cross compilers, static code analysis, in-circuit debuggers, and HIL systems.Be knowledgeable about test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, current probes, and function generators.Have experience with communication protocols including CAN, CANFD, LIN, SENT, Ethernet, UDS, GMLAN, FNOS, and IEEE15765.Have experience in application domains such as Powertrain, Automatic Transmission Controls, Gasoline Engine Control, Diesel Engine Control, and Basic Software (BSW).Possess good verbal and written English skills.Be willing to travel 50% domestically, mostly locally, with rare non-local travel to customer fields or plants.Additionally, the ability to work independently with minimal direction is required, as are strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience with PCs and application software, such as MS Office tools, is also required.Education:
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.Experience:
