Ignites, an online daily from the Financial Times, is looking for a reporter to join its team covering the mutual fund and ETF industry. This reporter will cover technology and operations - including how major fund companies are using artificial intelligence and building automation tools. The reporter will also cover major service providers, including State Street and BNY Mellon, as well as the index providers who build the benchmarks that mutual funds and ETFs compare themselves to.
We are the premier publication covering the mutual fund, ETF and 401(k) marketplaces, and a go-to source for industry decision-makers.
The position is based in Manhattan, however we have a hybrid remote-work policy.

The reporter will join a team of premier journalists in ferreting out scoops and crafting must-have content for executives working in the constantly evolving asset-management industry.
We break major industry stories and provide analysis that has been picked up by major national papers, including The New York Times and Wall Street Journal. We have also received several industry awards in areas including investigative reporting, analysis and news coverage.
The ideal candidate will relish working a beat, developing a network of sources, deriving narratives from legal and regulatory filings and breaking news. We welcome creative ideas for presenting information to our readers across print, graphic and video platforms. Applicants should be flexible and comfortable working as part of a team.
The successful candidates will join an established, successful and profitable Financial Times publication with more than 125,000 paying readers.
What You'll Be Responsible For:
Reporting and writing at least three stories per week for our daily newsletterMining public documents and developing a network of sources to generate scoops and story ideasContributing to all storytelling formats, including videos, features, webcasts and, when appropriate, graphics and other visualizationsAttending industry events and meeting with sources to stay on top of the latest industry trends (including virtual events)What You'll Bring:

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $71,000-$75,000. To ensure pay fairness, the successful candidate will be offered a salary within the estimated salary range based on a number of considerations including but not limited to: skills; experience and training; certifications; and other business and organisational needs. The disclosed range estimate is for our NYC office and has not been adjusted for other locations. This position I s represented by the Writers Guild of America East.
