Description
Flatiron books is looking for an executive editor to support the expansion of its nonfiction program. This position will play an integral part in developing the imprint's nonfiction list, and the right candidate will bring a combination of publishing experience, editorial passion, and entrepreneurial drive to the role. The executive editor will be responsible for acquiring and editing a list of 8-10 titles a year in the general nonfiction space, with an eye for identifying emerging voices, fresh ideas, and thoughtful work with commercial potential.
What you'll do:
Acquire, edit, and oversee publication strategy for individual list of 8-10 titles a year
Collaborate editorially on select projects with supervisor
Provide expert input on nonfiction publishing in collaboration with marketing, publicity, and design teams
Maintain excellent relationships with key industry contacts
Work with authors and agents in all phases of the publishing process
Co-manage assistant-level employee
What you'll bring:
Expertise in nonfiction publishing
Demonstrated experience line editing and providing conceptual feedback on manuscripts
A strong interest in a variety of nonfiction categories, and an expansive/growth mindset about opportunities to widen scope of expertise
Ability to assess a project's potential informed by market data and needs of the imprint
Ability to work collaboratively with other teams and organizations on shared projects
A strong network of agent and author contacts and a demonstrated ability to maintain long-term relationships in the industry
Desire and ability to develop and and position nonfiction books for a wide and diverse audience
Ideal experience & education:
At least 8 years of experience editing nonfiction books
Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Ability to deliver timely, accurate work and demonstrate consistent follow through
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team setting
Demonstrated understanding of and an appreciation for the ideas of diversity, equity, and inclusion
Experience working on complex projects that require production expertise and excellent project management skills
Bachelor's degree
This role will have an annual salary of $100,000 - $120,000.
