Be the difference.Job SummaryPlans and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy. Collaborates with an interdisciplinary treatment team. Provides direction and supervision to Registered Occupational Therapy Assistants and Occupational Therapy students in the area of patient care. Added responsibility for program and staff development is required. An advanced level of clinical and interpersonal skills are required.
AccountabilitiesPerforms appropriate initial occupational therapy evaluations and re-evaluations and designs an occupational therapy plan of care- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of diagnosis / conditions seen in occupational therapy- Selects, performs and interprets the results of OT examinations of neurological,musculoskeletal and developmental systems- Accurately performs and interprets standardized evaluations as determined byappropriateness of client- Identifies actual or potential problems that would impact the OT treatment regimen as wellas the overall plan of care (such as cognitive deficits, family situations, etc.)- Establishes specific functional and measurable treatment goals based on results of theinitial assessment and feedback from patient and family- Designs the treatment plan appropriate for the patient's age, educational level, culturalbackground- Designs the plan for intervention that is coordinated and integrated with other services theindividual is receiving- Revises the treatment plan as appropriatePlans, implements, and evaluates a specific and comprehensive treatment plan and participates in patient discharge preparations- Demonstrates good working knowledge of various Occupational Therapy techniques,flexibility and creativity in the implementation of these therapy techniques- Interacts regularly with others involved in patient's care to incorporate an interdisciplinarytreatment approach for coordinated, quality care- Demonstrates awareness and use of proper safety measures regarding the patients andothers in the home and self- Reassesses patient status in response to treatment and goal achievement, redefinesproblems and modifies goals and treatment as indicated by the interdisciplinary treatmentplan- Provides information regarding follow-up services which may include a referral to othercommunity resources- Provides any written instruction for home exercises or care as indicated prior to discharge- Teaches, counsels and communicates with patients, their families and others to achievethe desired goals of occupational therapyActively participates in patient and family education process- Provides education and training to patients, families and caregivers regarding diagnoses,progress and long-term functional outcomes- Supports and provides educational material to patients / families for support groups as wellas community resources- Attends multidisciplinary patient conferences- Promotes health care in the community.Complies with departmental policies for documentation- Documents all aspects of assessment, planning, treatment and discharge in the computerin a timely manner- Daily treatment records are noted in the computer on a daily basis and are clear andprofessional in their terminology- Patient conference notes are succinct and contain information regarding progress to dateand focus on further treatment- Documentation is in compliance with the chart review audit componentsProductivity- Meets the team / department productivity standards- Assists with additional coverage when caseload permits and when multiple caseloadsmay be modified easily to permit one person to assist with coverage in another area- Complies with established standards of efficient patient scheduling to maintainappropriate levels of productivity- Accepts and examines performance feedback and incorporates this into their conduct- Long-term and short-term goals are appropriate, achievable and measurable within aspecific time frameDepartment and Team Responsibilities- Attends staff meetings, team meetings and mandatory in services as scheduled- Completes mandatory training annually and in a timely manner- Completes PPD testing procedures by the end of the employee's birth month- Completes assignments in a timely and thorough manner- Assists with care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, qualityassurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested- Demonstrates willingness to orient and assist and is respectful of the rights of other teammembers- Provides supervision to Occupational Therapy Assistants and Occupational Therapystudents as assigned.- Assumes an additional team / department responsibility.Supervisory/Management ResponsibilitiesThis is a non-management job that report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.Minimum RequirementsEducation - Bachelor's Degree Occupational TherapyExperience - 1 year Occupational TherapyRequired Certifications/Registrations/LicensesLicensure by S.C.
