Job Title: Senior Substation Engineer

Job Location: 720 East Butterfield Road STE 200, Lombard, IL 60148

Primary Function:

As the leader of a project team, the Senior Substation Engineer performs engineering and design duties as well as organizes all activities required for the development and implementation of high voltage electrical substation projects across a multidisciplinary team of drafters, designers, and various levels of engineers. The Senior Substation Engineer drives project schedules and budgets for multiple projects at a time and functions as a Company contact for clients and vendors.

Duties & Responsibilities

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:Ensure that projects are managed to meet project quality, schedule and profitability objectiveSupervise and coordinate all project activities to ensure on time completion.Assign tasks to project design team based on project needsWork with project team to create or modify all design documentsEnsure project team is using project specific standards and that the design effort is progressing in the most efficient manner possibleDevelop one line diagrams, electrical plans, and specifications for a projectApply engineering application software to complete tasks such as ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, load flow, and short circuit studiesPerform engineering and design functions as necessary to meet project schedulesCommunicate and coordinate project activities with customer representatives, project team, and managementPrepare, coordinate, and track project schedules and budgets, and ensure projects remain within allotted budgets and schedules and address deviations with managementEnsure project team applies engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSIProperly use the document management systemTake personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her workBring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible partyTravel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignmentsOther duties as requiredMinimum Qualifications / Experience

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university is required, a power focus is preferred. Must be a licensed professional engineer; if registered in a state other than where the engineer will practice, the employee must be able to obtain a license within eighteen months of date of hire. A minimum of ten years of direct experience and proven knowledge in high voltage (138kV and above) electrical substation engineering and design field is required.

Possess skills in the following areas:

Strong knowledge and understanding of high voltage electrical substation components and their functions at 138kV and aboveExtensive knowledge of AC/DC fundamentalsStrong knowledge and understanding of three phase power systems, per-unit mathematics, and symmetrical componentsKnowledge of common engineering application softwareStrong Knowledge and understanding of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSIStrong knowledge of design documents and drawings necessary to complete a projectSupervising a project team in a technical work environmentKnowledge of common word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail softwareWorking in a team environmentCommunicating effectively with co-workers, vendors, clients, etc.Physical Requirements:

This position requires minimal physical effort.Must be able to endure prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for a minimum of 8 hours a dayWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure to year around weather conditions and noise.Must be able and willing to travel overnight for trainings and/or meetings as required (10%)Working extended hours, including weekends, may be required periodically.May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at a time.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions as defined per Company policy.
