TITLE:
SCHOOL NURSE COORDINATOR
WORK SCHEDULE:
10 Month Work Calendar &
Per Diem 25-6 Hour Days Scheduled by the District in July & August
SALARY:
CSEA School Nurse Coordinator - Step 1 $35.00 / hr.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with NYS.Minimum 2 years of experience in the school setting with an established understanding of the duties/responsibilities/state requirementsPossesses excellent communication, organizational, and human relations skills.RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports to assigned office daily and performs all functions of a school nurse; covers unstaffed nursing offices in another buildingsLiaison between nursing staff, Medical Director, Athletic Director, School Physician, BOCES Safety Coordinator and District employee physical provider including but not limited to: scheduling physicals, creation and implementation of policies/procedures, communicable disease control, emergency health forms, bus accidents, medication destruction, etc.Manage nursing schedules, securing coverage as needed to High School, Middle School, Elementary school and summer school for both scheduled and unscheduled absencesStaff summer responsibilities including but not limited to summer schoolMeet as necessary with the Director of PPS for information sharing purposes and to coordinate and setup monthly nurses meetings and agendas. The person in this position will run the monthly nurses meetings and report to the Director or PPS if they are not presentParticipate in the interview/hiring process for new nurses and substitute nurses. Provide mentorship, orientation and training for new nursesProvide and organize training for nursing staff such as yearly CPR and BLS training, and medical procedures for students with health needs such as food allergies, diabetes, and seizure disordersAttend and participate in all district safety meetings quarterly, communicating updates/changes to nursing staffCoordinate and update information to nursing staff regarding the following:
Policies and proceduresStanding ordersEquipment (ordering & maintaining)In-service educationState mandates and recommendationsHealth Office ManualsFirst Aid OrdersForm BookCPR Certificates & Nursing LicenseImmunization survey coordinationHPN Network CoordinationCoordination of the BMI and all other Mandated SurveysMedication inventory, administration and disposal
Confer with school physician concerning all medical policies/procedures, accidents, any medical issues requiring physician consultPoint person for state mandated reporting, responsible for collecting data provided by each school nurse-assisting as appropriate with data collection- working closely with Director of PPS for submitting reports in a timely fashionSet up, manage and oversee an annual flu shot clinic and any other like eventMedical device management for all buildings including AED, vision screener(s), audiometer(s). Coordinate replacement of expired items, calibration of equipment, logging of monthly checklist, etc.Assist with mandated screenings at each building as neededCoordinate collection of UPK health record dataCoordinate all contract nursing services and substitute nursesManage supply orders, equipment servicing or other items before recommending to the Director of PPSAdditional summer hours paid per diem, upon approvalOther duties as assigned by superintendent or designee
