Elmhurst Hospital Center (EHC) is the major tertiary care provider in the borough of Queens. The hospital is comprised of 545 beds and is a Level I Trauma Center, an Emergency Heart Care Station and a 911 Receiving Hospital. Job Description
Under general supervision, directs the development, implementation and evaluation of the nursing regimen for patients/clients in two or more units of a clinical service involving the diagnosis and treatment of responses to actual or potential health problems by means of nursing methods and techniques such as case-finding, health teaching, health counseling and the provision of care supportive to and restorative of life and well-being. Schedules, assigns, guides, directs and instructs professional and allied nursing personnel in nursing activities.
Duties & Responsibilities1. Performs major duties and functions as described in the Staff Nurse position description.2. Coordinates, guides and directs the development, implementation and continuous evaluation of the nursing regimen for patients/clients within the clinical service.3. Participates in the determination of conditions, resources and policies essential to delivery of nursing care within the clinical service.4. Guides, coordinates and directs the development and maintenance of a system of evaluation of nursing care, practices and procedures, including evaluation of nursing personnel within the clinical service.5. Defines, implements and maintains standards of nursing practice and evaluates the quality of nursing care rendered within the clinical service.6. Reviews and analyzes trends pertinent to delivery of nursing care services within the clinical service and initiates appropriate innovations or makes recommendations for needed changes in support of patient experience and continuity of care.7. When assigned to continuing education for Nursing Service, develops, plans and assists in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of training and educational activities for nursing practitioners and allied nursing personnel.8. Performs other professional nursing activities as delegated by nursing service administration.
Minimum Qualifications1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and3. Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse.
