Job Description

Under direction of the Chief Nursing Executive or appropriate designee, is responsible for the planning, development implementation, and evaluation of all nursing educational programs, including nursing orientation programs, and other developmental activities in an assigned health care setting or settings. Establishes and maintains nursing education objectives, policies and standards that support continual quality improvement and health care setting goals, while ensuring optimal utilization of resources, service delivery, safe patient care, and compliance with all applicable local, state, federal and NYC Health + Hospitals rules and regulations and nursing standards of care.

General tasks and responsibilities will include:Plans and directs the administration of all nursing educational programs and activities for assigned health care setting(s), including nursing orientation, in-service training, and continuing education, to facilitate the professional development of nursing staff and advancement of the profession.Directs the continual assessment of nursing educational needs, including competency assessment of nursing staff; identifies strategic and operational nursing education and development priorities, and establishes responsive training and development strategies, plans, and projects.In collaboration with nursing leadership and educators, monitors and evaluates nursing in-service trainings, orientations, and other nursing educational activities to ensure that requirements and national Patient SafetyGoals are met; collects and maintains records, reports and data for administrative and compliance purposes.Manages the identification and implementation of evidence-based methodologies and/or best practices, directs the development of programs based on the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards, and promotes teaching and learning strategies/methodologies that maximize engagement and professional practice.Directs program evaluations that measure learning impact and outcomes against strategic goals and objectives of the heath care setting(s) to enhance the effectiveness of clinical care and nursing performance.Establishes, implements, and monitors adherence to policies, practices, procedures, and performance standards for nursing education, including compliance, quality assurance, and budgetary guidelines.Plans and directs in-service education for new equipment, products, processes, and systems; manages the resulting implementation of changes in nursing practice and organization, and monitors and refines plans to support change implementation and sustainment.Serves on nursing and health care setting committees, and participates in interdisciplinary meetings, community meetings, and task forces, as required.Provides oversight and support for educational academic affiliations, accredited programs with education requirements, and community out-reach projects, as required.Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education programs, activities, and other appropriate learning opportunitiesAll Other Duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in New York State; and2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and3. A Master's Degree in Nursing, or a related nursing or education field, from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of experience providing nursing education and training
