The National Science Foundation's latest Higher Education Research and Development (HERD) Survey (2022) ranks Georgia State 125th out of 642 universities in the U.S. for research expenditures and 84th out of 410 public universities.The Georgia State University (GSU) Division of Animal Resources (DAR) welcomes applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Clinical Services. The DAR is responsible for the daily operations and management of several animal facilities that support Georgia State's psychology, neuroscience, biology, biomedical, and health professional programs in accordance with applicable regulations, guidelines, and institutional policies. Georgia State's AAALAC accredited animal care program comprises approximately 50,000 sq. ft. of animal housing and support space in six buildings on two campuses for a wide variety of species that include rodents, small animals, non-human primates, and aquatic species.HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DOThis individual serves as one of two veterinarians associated with the program and reports to the Director of the Division of Animal Resources/Attending Veterinarian. Research involving laboratory animals at GSU encompasses a wide variety of disciplines. One area of growth has concerned infectious disease research to include an expansion of high containment (ABSL3) facilities and activities.The provision of veterinary medical and surgical care to a wide array of laboratory animal species (nonhuman primates, rodents, ferrets, etc.) to include shared after-hours, weekends, and holiday responsibilities, as well as:Serving as a member of the IACUC and participating in ancillary IACUC activities (e.g. semiannual facility and program review).Conducting veterinary consultations for IACUC protocols and research initiatives.Assisting the Director of Animal Resources/Attending Veterinarian with various initiatives associated with animal resource program direction/leadership/initiatives/priorities.Providing direct oversight of the Animal Healthcare Technicians (Veterinary Assistants).Directing the health surveillance and quarantine programs.Serving as an instructor in bio methodology and surgical workshops.Developing additional bio methodology and surgical workshops commensurate with demand.Providing and overseeing one-on-one procedural training.Assisting with compliance efforts (e.g. USDA inspections, AAALAC Program Description preparation and site visits, etc.)Performing other related duties as needed.

Minimum Requirements:Doctoral degree and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:A veterinary medical degree (DVM or VMD) from an AVMA accredited veterinary college or ECFVG certification.Veterinary licensure in at least one of the United States.Board certification (or Board eligible) by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine.ACLAM diplomate status.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Three or more years of relevant experience.Veterinary medical and surgical experience with a variety of laboratory animal species to include nonhuman primates, rodents, ferrets as well as having experience in high containment research.Previous IACUC experience.Familiarity with the AAALAC re-accreditation process.
