POSITION GOAL(S):The Executive Director of Facilities will ensure the effective management, maintenance, and enhancement of all district facilities, including custodial, maintenance, grounds, logistics, and construction. The primary goal is to provide safe, efficient, and well-maintained environments that support student learning and staff productivity across the district's schools and buildings. This includes overseeing the successful execution of capital improvement projects, implementing sustainable practices, ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory standards, and fostering collaboration with district leadership to align facility operations with the district's long-term strategic goals. The Executive Director will also manage resources efficiently, ensuring that all facilities are operated within budgetary constraints while meeting the diverse needs of students, staff, and the community.
JOB DUTIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Manage all aspects of operations, maintenance, custodial, grounds and night custodial for the 55+ facility DistrictAdminister all aspects of school district facilities operations: a. Facility cleaning and maintenance b. Facility renovation and construction c. Employee safety d. School safety and securityWork closely with local ROE for construction permitting with the architect of recordIn partnership with the ROE, execute annual Health Life Safety visits and provide maintenance for the 10-year Health Life Safety Plan.Ensure the District complies with all rules and regulationsParticipate in all safety drills and support the emergency response teams in crisis situations as neededOptimize site inspection expectations with custodial, maintenance, and grounds personnel while creating a positive, valued team cultureCoordinate with District staff regarding facility use for before, after, and summer academic and athletic programming including liability and risk mitigationServe as the District/Park District liaison for playground replacement as well as before/after school shared athletic/swimming facility and all before/after school, intercession, and summer school programs housed in District facilitiesEstablish standards and long-term priority programs for maintenance and the modernization of building and groundsEstablish and maintain construction standards as well as communicate these standards to architects, consultants, and engineersCoordinate and serve as liaison with architects, consultants, contractors, and engineers in conjunction with district maintenance and construction projectsPrepare reports to the Board of Education as requested a. Reports may include, but are not limited to construction status reports, school safety, and environmental status reportsEnsure hazardous materials are properly stored and disposed ofEstablish and maintain a safe and effective work environment, including selection and evaluation of employees and training programsOversee the supervision, development, and appraisal of all department staff.Oversite of departmental budgetsMonitor budgets and costs associated with custodial and maintenance operationsDevelop, implement and maintain the District 5-year capital project plan.Develop, implement and maintain the District 5-year preventative maintenance plan.Develop and implement long-term strategies for warehouse and logistics operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. This includes optimizing supply chain processes, forecasting operational needs, and setting performance benchmarks for inventory and deliveries by the warehouse team.Provide leadership and direction to the Logistics Coordinator, ensuring that daily warehouse operations, including inventory management, order fulfillment, and distribution, are efficient and meet the needs of the districtIdentify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency by implementing new technologies, automation, or process improvements. Lead initiatives to streamline workflows, reduce costs, and improve overall performance across warehouse and logistics functions.Maintain a current knowledge of the field through attendance at professional conference, readings, and membership in professional organizationsDirects the plant operations department according to the policies and procedures of the school district, the state, and federal regulations.Ensures that all district facilities are in compliance with local, county and state mandates.Directs the energy conservation program.Directs purchases of contract services and the services of professional consultants.Provides administrative and technical direction and supervision to department staff to meet the District needs in support of the Strategic Plan.Provides administrative support and technical direction to support the safety and security operations district wide.Participates in the collective bargaining process and grievance hearings as directed by the Deputy Superintendents and/or the legal office.Maintain all permanent records, reports, and other paperwork as neededRespond 24 hours a day to emergency situations as directed or requiredAttends District, Board, and other meetings as requiredOther responsibilities as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent of OperationsEXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE:
Minimum of five years' experience in school facilities management or equivalent experience in a related field.Evidence of successful experience in supervising large groups of personnel and/or personnel at multiple locations via front line supervisorsSubstantial background in engineering, building construction management, facility management, and personnel management.A thorough knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems, and computer-based energy management systems.Ability to communicate effectively and work with contacts at all levels of the organization, including the board of education.Ability to communicate effectively and work with contacts outside of the District, including contractual service companies, consultants, manufacturers of products used within the District buildings and federal and state agencies.Experience with the Illinois School Code, life safety procedures and mandates from the Illinois State Board of Education.
EDUCATION:Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, administration or architectural engineering (or related fields) required.AFE Certified Professional Maintenance Manager (CPMM) strongly preferredAFE Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) preferredMaster's degree in engineering, business, administration or architectural engineering (or related fields) preferred.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:This is a 12-month position.Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.The full salary range for this position is $132,264 to $198,409. It is our typical practice to hire in between the minimum and midpoint ($165,343).
