Fleet Maintenance Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:
Supervises the diagnosing, assigning and repairing of District bus equipment. Assists, and supervises activities of the department and the Maintenance Mechanics. Responsible for supervision of projects as assigned. Acts as liaison for Maintenance Fleet department as necessary. Maintain accurate records of purchases and inventory.
This position reports to the Fleet Maintenance Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the Fleet Maintenance Manager with duties of answering radio, answering phones, and getting estimates for wrecks. Supervises the fuel inventory and costs-fuel costs per bus, all yearly testing of the fuel tanks, and fuel lines in accordance to regulations. Writes all work orders, repairs and accidents; responds to accidents as needed. Orders materials per purchasing guidelines and performs mechanical responsibilities as needed.
Develops and trains employees in safety methods, procedures, use of equipment, hand tools, and test equipment. Monitors operations, inspects, and measures completed work to ensure quality standards. Oversees and maintains spare bus inventory, maintains all repairs for cameras, radios, and vcrs.
Monitors Fleet Maintenance Mechanics, Verifies time sheets/work hours; initiates performance evaluations, transfers, promotions and disciplinary measures. Maintains workplace safety and security.
Assists in preparation of annual department budget; provides labor and material estimates for repairs and renovations. Completes and maintains reports, tracks and coordinates all trade activities on computerized maintenance management system.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED certificate required. Vocational training in area required.Minimum of five (5) years automotive, maintenance experience.
Minimum of 3 years in a leadership role. Extensive knowledge of the diesel & automotive repair and maintenance, parts budgeting, management, and inventory control.
Makes supervisory decisions which impact the Maintenance Department, staff and the schools/buildings within the District.
Valid GA Commercial Driver's License (CDL) of class B with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement; Vocational training in area required.
Analytical: independent judgment is required. Makes decision and recommendation under the guidance and supervision of the Manager and/or Coordinating Supervisor.
Requires regular contact with internal personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of high importance; requires regular contact with outside agencies and the District.
Requires regular contact with external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance; may require occasional contact with outside agencies and the District.
Provides training and guidance to Fleet Maintenance Mechanics.
Applies, recommends and implements technology concepts to improve the effectiveness of the Maintenance Department.
Responsibility for the Welfare of Others: Daily
Variable work environment - Maintenance shop, and emergency calls.Potential hazards of this position include regular exposure to electricity, and chemicals. Subjected to wide range of temperature. Ability to wear appropriate safety equipment, including mask, respirator, safety glasses and/or goggles, ear protectors, protective hat, gloves, coveralls, etc. as required.
Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds frequently and one (100) pounds occasionally. Walking, standing, kneeling, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling and lying near and under vehicle, reaching in all directions for eight (8) hours per day.
NOTE: This is a grade 25, 225 day position that pays for experience up to a Step 8.
