Job Description

Salary Range: $52,266- $84,148

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to supervise day-to-day operations and staff involved in performing maintenance and repair services on County-owned vehicles and equipment in an assigned department or area.

This classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County's Drug & Alcohol Policy.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.

Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.

Schedules and assigns preventive maintenance work and on-demand repairs; identifies units with preventive maintenance work or inspections due; contacts the department to have the vehicles made available; handles on-demand requests for maintenance or repair; ensures wreckers or field repair vehicles are dispatched as needed; creates work orders; assigns work orders to technicians; and contacts customers regarding past-due maintenance.

Monitors technicians' work and performance; ensures work is completed in a timely manner; supports technicians with advice and training as needed; inspects vehicles after maintenance or repair; and reviews completed work orders; and ensures services have been performed, records updated, and parts have been charged.

Orders outside parts or service as needed; contacts vendors to acquire part numbers and quotes; orders parts or service from vendors; monitors vendor performance; and processes purchase requisitions and invoices.

Supervises inventory of vehicles; receives, checks in, and records new vehicles; orders unit numbers or other decals as required; receives retired and out-of-service vehicles; processes related records; and prepares retired vehicles for surplus sale or other disposition.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required, with vocational or technical training in automotive repair or fleet operations and maintenance; three years of experience in automotive maintenance and repair or fleet operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required:

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Some positions may be required to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) appropriate for the level of equipment operated within six (6) months of starting employment in this classification.
