This job posting is for Custodians who work part-time (29 hours a week) in the evening, Monday to Friday. Your regular shift would start at a set time between the hours of 3:45pm to 5:00pm, depending on your school assignment. This is a year-round position with work through the summer, winter and spring breaks (260 work days). With the change of pace during the summer, winter, and spring breaks you’ll coordinate with your supervisor to work a temporary day schedule.
Selection Process: Eligible candidates will be invited to interview as vacancies occur.
Conditions of Employment: At the time of employment, new hires must successfully pass a criminal background check, provide proof of employment eligibility, and pass a physical exam in which they can safely perform job related responsibilities.
Position Details
Your mission as part of the Custodial Team is to enhance the learning environment of our students by providing facilities that are clean and well managed, resulting in every school receiving a high level of customer service and support. As a stand out Custodian you are professional, a natural problem solver, and a teamplayer. You may have previous custodial experience or are new to being a Custodian but have the teamplayer mindset and eagerness to learn in order to support the PPS Graduate Portrait .
What you will do
You’ll collaborate with your team to ensure your building is clean. Tasks include being able to dust, sweep, mop, wax floors, wash windows, clean sumps, vacuum, clean carpets, empty waste baskets/garbage cans, etc.You’ll prioritize the cleaning of different types of rooms including restrooms, kitchens, cafeterias, gymnasiums, etc.You’ll ensure your building is well maintained and change lights, perform minor maintenance, or other general custodial duties.You’ll work with school staff to set up your building for after school activities, special events, and/or meetings.You’ll aid staff with special projects such as moving heavy, bulky items.You’ll be available to be on call for after hours emergency assistance to the building if needed.You’ll collaborate in building wide Equity initiatives that promote the PPS mission .Eventually you’ll know your building well and may be responsible for locking and securing the building at the end of your shift.You may be assigned other reasonably related duties.What you bring
You can speak, read, and write in English.You can demonstrate your ability to understand and carry out written and oral directions, ask questions, and seek the direction or assistance of the head Custodian.You are able to use good judgment and communicate successfully with the building Principal, students, teachers, staff and the general public during and after school hours.You are able to work successfully with diverse employees and perform consistently with a customer service model.You are able to learn and operate boilers, heating and ventilation and simple maintenance.You are able to operate minor mechanical equipment such as waxers, polishers, scrubbers, edgers, power lawn mowers, wet/dry vacuums etc.You have a working knowledge of district cleaning materials, methods, equipment and principles of sanitation.You have a demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment in general plant surveillance for building protection and occupant safety.You are proficient with basic computer skills.You are able to bend, stoop, twist, walk, carry and lift for eight hours per day.You must possess a physical condition sufficient to maintain a rigorous work schedule requiring continuous physical exertion and heavy lifting; Ability to lift 0-50 lbs.You are able to be on call, after hours, for emergency assistance to the building if needed.You can review a comprehensive list of qualifications by clicking here .Where you will be

Pay: SEIU Bargaining Agreement Appendix B - $20.99 per hour
