As part of the ECU Health system of care, the hospital offers high quality care provided by more than 20 medical specialists, rehabilitation services, a birthing center, a cancer center, outpatient clinics and more.
Position Summary
Responsible for assessing, treatment planning and execution of Occupational Therapy treatments. These services are based on the patient/family preferences and the developmental needs, medical conditions and diseases as they affect patient care and recovery. The staff therapist will be responsible for maintaining patient care documentation and adherence to documentation guidelines. The staff therapist shall participate in maintaining a patient caseload and meeting established productivity standards. Able to understand the patient problems as related to the patient's occupational performance. Supervises Level I & II students Occupational Therapy and Rehab Studies students. Interprets results of standardized tests. Develops plan of care. Involved with special projects and capable of assisting with research. May provide supervision and delegation of responsibilities to OT I and II & all OTA staff. Assists with teaching OT and OTA students at the collegiate level, staff development, credentialing Occupational Therapy Assistants. Has identified an area of clinical expertise. Performs other duties as assigned. This level involves increased responsibility for solving problems directly related to difficult patient care but also for reorganizing and assisting with resolution within the department in order to maximize patient care/staff performance. Will have identified a second area of expertise. Able to assist with a single case research project. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
1. Provides structured learning opportunities for students and facilitates student projects. Able to assist with research.2. Assist OTAs and students with location of resources. Prepares lectures to maximize students learning experience.3. Responsible for a patient caseload and meeting productivity expectations.4. Able to locate specific policy & procedure documents. Facilitates protocol development following protocol structure.5. Leads group and individual treatment/protocol development. Also, complete literature search to support protocol development.6. Identifies factors contributing to department/program finances that may result in cost containment.7. Administers standardized tests for identified population/interpret and communicate results to applicable stakeholders.8. Following assessment of patient, develops treatment plan considering patients strengths, weaknesses and needs. Works as part of an interdisciplinary team to meet the needs of the patient.9. Completes four major projects to maintain Level IV status.10. Demonstrates awareness of available community resources to include adaptive equipment and DME. Serves as a guest lecturer at ECU or Pitt Community College on request. Provides training for staff onsite and assists with verification of competency of Level I, II and III OT staff and all levels OTAs and technicians.
Able to identify one or more areas in which can serve as a resource for expertise, clinical education, and staff development.
Will assist in establishing/certifying staff competency in designated areas. Assists with data collection and/or data analysis and conclusion for designated research project.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy is required.
Ten or more years of licensure required.
