Oceana is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant who, as part of the Finance and Accounting Department, will contribute to the delivery of timely, relevant and accurate financial information. The Staff Accountant will lead the maintenance of accounting records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principle sand also assist with the disbursement process. This position reports to the Accounting Manager The role requires the ability to work independently without close supervision, manage complexity, identify and solve problems with a fair degree of resiliency. The position is hybrid in the office Tues/Wed/Thursday in our Washington, DC headquarters.
The Staff Accountant position is responsible for the effective performance of various accounting functions, including bank reconciliations, journal entries, analysis of general ledger accounts, and enforcement of internal policies. The Staff Accountant verifies the reliable and timely preparation of internal and external reports related to their areas of responsibility. They will also be expected to be a resource to other accountants and support staff.

Our campaigns extend to countries that, combined, govern nearly one-third of the world's wild-caught fish, including Belize, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, the United States, the UK, and the countries in the European Union.
Principal Duties, Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Analyze and reconcile bank statements as well as balance sheet accounts (cash, investments, receivables, payables, and other subledgers) per close schedule.Review and schedule revenue entries captured in CRM software (Salesforce) to ensure correct transfer of financial data into accounting software.Act as back-up for accounts payable processing including:
Creating/reviewing/approving new vendorsUpdating vendor banking information as neededVerifying expenditures have proper support and are coded properlyApproving payment requests
Complete requested materials and assist in preparing schedules for the annual audit.Prepare special reports; completes special projects as assigned.Act as back-up for team and perform other duties as assigned.Education & Experience Requirements:
Minimum education requirement of bachelor's degree in in accountingAt least four years of relevant progressive accounting experienceDemonstrated knowledge and experience applying United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), laws, regulations, and internal policies related to their areas of responsibility.Experience with highly integrated ERP and CRM systems required (Netsuite and Salesforce strongly preferredStrong analytical skills and problem-solving skills utilizing Microsoft office products.Proven experience and knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition preferredReliable team player who contributes to a productive working environment with other employees to meet organizational goals.Well-developed written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.Excellent attention to detail.Able to effectively prioritize multiple responsibilities in a faced paced environment and perform them with speed, accuracy and courtesy.Able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.Required Competencies

The salary range for this position is $68,000-73,000 annually.
