The GIS Tech position is primarily responsible for data entry and data maintenance of the McKenzie County GIS system, which supports workflows within multiple county departments. This position is located in Watford City, ND and is scheduled for Monday-Friday. Level and salary are commensurate with experience.Responsibilities:
Assign 911 addresses based on local, state, and NENA standardsReview, identify, and edit GIS data that supports Public Works, Engineering, Planning & Zoning, Emergency Response, and other county departmentsAssist County staff and members of the public with varying information requests such as address verification, maps, and dataUpdate/produce cartographic procedures, maps, and other documentsAssist users with large format scans and printsSupport the use of GPS & mobile devices for field information and collectionOther duties as assigned for business needsMinimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or GEDAssociate's degree preferred in GIS, geography, regional planning, or a degree with a minor in GIS2 years experience editing spatial data, analysis of spatial/tabular data, and displaying related dataAdditional Skills Applied Daily:
Understanding of County government functions such as 911/emergency response, public works, planning and zoning, etc.Ability to work on several projects or requests simultaneously, with little directionExtensive knowledge of computers, computer programs, scanning equipment, plotters, and various office machinesExcellent organization skills, attention to detail, and customer serviceEffective communication skills, both verbal and writtenWillingness and desire to learn new and challenging tasksValid driver's licensePhysical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Must possess the ability to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, copier, files, telephone, and fax; maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone.Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Incumbents will be required to work outside occasionally and possibly negotiate rough terrain.The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
