Job Description Summary
The metallic materials application engineer (MAE) provides materials expertise and technical leadership for multiple material systems across a variety of components. The focus of this role is the development and application of metallic materials and processes across a variety of aviation components within the supply chain. In this role you will work with new products and legacy teams to solve complex technical problems. This role has a direct effect on short-term and some long-term business goals. The role requires horizontal partnership with design, sourcing, and quality to ensure robust technical solutions for the customer.
The primary technical responsibilities of this role will be focused on Iron based melting, conversion, and forge processes.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities :Execute, with guidance from senior engineering resources, the analysis, design, test, or integration required to define and support assigned components, assemblies or systems that meet business standards and program / product requirements. Workscope will include material selection for new designs, troubleshooting of manufacturing issues at new-make and in repair, new material/process implementation, review of supplier processes, material test program planning, in addition to other technical tasks.Support and drive business strategy for improvement in special processes as they apply in primary processing (melting, conversion, forge & heat treatment) of rotor alloys across the rotating parts supply chain.Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers.Support to supply chain, attendance at audits and pre-production meetingsParticipate on business and industry teams supporting overall improvement in the application of special processes for critical rotating parts.Provide technical and strategic support to supply chain through attendance at audits/reviews and pre-production meetings.Define technical specifications and establish process limits.Share engineering information and promote open dialogue.Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.Participate on teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives.
Qualifications/Requirements :Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or related fieldMinimum of 8 years of experience in material application, failure analysis or material behavior work.Willingness and ability to travel, as required

Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or MetallurgyExperience with aerospace or gas turbine industry manufacturing, quality systems and field support.Experience with primary processing (melting, conversion, forge & heat treatment) of rotating part forgings.In depth understanding of metallurgy, manufacturing processes and inspections such as forging, heat treatment, macroetch and blue etch anodize inspection etc.In depth understanding of the supply chainStrong oral and written communication skillsEffective problem identification and solution skillsProven analytical and organizational abilityStrong interpersonal and leadership skillsSelf-motivated and able to work independently and in teamsMust have ability to work successfully in a team environmentAbility to coordinate several projects simultaneouslyMust have desire to perform technical work
