Job Summary

The Packaging Technician I operates within the packaging team (Tech I, Tech II, Lead, and Supervisor) to perform supporting tasks that contribute to canning and kegging operations within the Production Department. Other tasks as assigned due to business needs.

Job Responsibilities

Stages packaging dry goods for use on packaging equipment.

Visually inspects finished goods for any quality defects or abnormalities in packaging and ensures finished goods meet all visual quality standards.

Monitors and operates packaging equipment and communicates abnormalities or maintenance needs to appropriate personnel.

Palletizes finished cased goods and prepares pallets for shipment, including strapping, stretch wrapping, and proper labeling.

Operates kegging equipment to clean, fill, and palletize kegged product.

Handles, organizes, and counts dunnage materials.

Operates forklift and pallet jack to move loads within the facility.

Understands, handles, and uses pressurized gases.

Assists in performing packaging equipment preventative maintenance (PM) schedule.

Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly cidery and warehouse environment.

Operates pressure washer to maintain cidery floors, clean keg and tank exteriors.

Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adheres to good safety practices.

Skills & Qualifications

Experience in a cidery, winery, or brewery preferred, but not necessary.

High School Diploma, GED, or two years of work-related experience.

Forklift Certification is a plus, but not necessary.

Ability to work flexible shifts, including extended hours, weekends, and overtime as needed.

Good reading, writing, and mathematical skills.

Demonstrated ability to understand and follow directions, as well as listen and communicate with co-workers.

Strong and proven work ethic, and ability to multi-task workload.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment is usually that of a beverage production plant.

The employee is regularly working around hazardous materials.

The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.

The employee regularly works around alcohol, high voltage electricity, hot water, pressurized asphyxiant gases.

The employee must work to contribute to a sanitary and clean work environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb.

Ability to frequently talk, hear, feel, taste, and smell.

Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and occasionally maneuver up to 165 lbs. along the ground or floor.

Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms.

Ability to work on a platform ladder at heights up to 20 feet.

Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
