Job Summary
The Lab Manager oversees and administers Seismic Brewing Company's (SBC) Laboratory to ensure day-to-day operations meet QC/QA standards. The Lab is a central and critical hub of information gathering, data management and analysis.
Job Responsibilities
Oversee and administer day-to-day Lab operations and programs to meet SBC, GSC, and contract partner product specifications. This includes:
Packaging QC support, measure D.O., carbonation, fill height, & filler hygieneYeast count and viability, track harvests and generations to maintain a quality source of yeastInvestigate customer complaints or feedback, as necessaryMonitor products for microbial stability through PCR testing or traditional microbiological techniques (plating, microscopy, etc.)Run all finished beers on alkalizer at Golden State CiderCommunicate any out of spec results with necessary departments to ensure quality standards are maintained
Work with Golden State Cider's lab team to collaborate on projects and analytical lab equipment to make our company's lab department as efficient as possible.Assist in R&D development of new product creation and maintain R&D project hoursMonitor and help operate the Wastewater Treatment and Recovery System
Work with Maintenance to ensure all sensors are calibrated and working correctly
Sensory Analysis; coordination and participation in the daily sensory panelPurchase Lab supplies, maintain laboratory supplies, prepare reagents and standard solutionsMaintain, improve and develop processes, procedures and SOP's for LabsTrain and monitor users for sample preparation, use of equipment and record keeping for Cellar activitiesManage and monitor Sample Library, review cider and beer to ensure appropriate aging, meet department CQI initiatives and mitigate spoilage eventsManage all data entry and recordkeeping for beer, cider, and all contract partners using excel, beer tracking, google sheets, and OneDrive
Develop organized systems for all data and worksheet storage on OneDrive with IT departmentMake sure all data is entered on time and accurately
Ensure that all chemicals, containers with hazardous waste materials, or spent materials are labeled according to local, state and federal environmental regulationsWork with all departments for proper hazardous material/waste storage and disposalUpdate and organize SDS binders for both GSC & SBCEnsure the lab is a safe, clean, and fully compliant environmentWork as a team with all departments to get all production work complete.Skills & Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of experience in a related field, eg. Lab or applied sciencesProficient use of Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and Inventory Management SoftwareExcellent communication, problem solving and critical thinking skillsAbility to function independently and as a member of a teamStrong and proven work ethic, with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detailForklift proficiency and certification is a plusWork Environment & Physical Requirements
