Position SummaryGEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms, and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.Position DescriptionOur Staff Engineer is a key member of the engineering staff working with the organization to provide friction-less experience to our customers and maintain the highest standards of protection and availability. Our team thrives and succeeds in delivering high quality technology products and services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. The ideal candidate has broad and deep technical knowledge, typically ranging from front-end UIs through back-end systems and all points in between.Position ResponsibilitiesAs a Staff Engineer, you will:Design, develop and implement enterprise data governance solutionsDesign, develop and implement data quality solutions for the enterpriseDesign, develop and implement solutions to manage data products, data contracts and data dictionaries for the enterpriseDesign, develop and implement data lineage solutions for the enterpriseDesign, develop and implement data classification solution identifying PCI, PII, etc data across the enterpriseScope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systemsResponsible for technical aspects of a project at the team levelLead design sessions and code reviews to elevate the quality of engineering across the organizationSpearhead new feature use (innovate within existing tooling)Spearhead new software acquisition and use (innovate with new tooling)Leverage automation to remove redundant error prone tasks to improve the quality of the solutionBuild product definition and leverage your technical skills to drive towards the right solutionEngage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycleDefine, create, and support reusable application components/patterns from a business and technology perspectiveMentor other engineersConsistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teamsQualificationsExperience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systemsExperience with programming languages like Java, Python, SQL, and NoSQL databasesExperience with GIT and version control concepts including branching, merging, and conflict resolutionExperience with Open-Source Data Governance solutions like DatahubExperience with Open-source tools like DBT, Soda, IcebergExperience in the complete software development life cycle and knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)Experience with container orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and various Azure tools and servicesExperience with relational and non-relational database technologies (SQL, Oracle, Postgres, CosmosDB, NoSQL etc.)Experience with Load test tooling (Gatling or equivalent)Experience with API development and integration, Spring Boot Framework and other Spring technologiesExperience with data observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana, Loki, Prometheus or equivalentsProven understanding and experience with microservices oriented architecture, extensible REST APIs and GraphQLAdvanced understanding of DevOps concepts including Azure DevOps framework and toolsUnderstanding and experience working with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, Gradle, Artifactory, Microsoft Azure DevOpsExperience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as codeAdvanced shell scripting skillsAdvanced understanding of monitoring concepts and toolingStrong problem-solving abilityAbility to excel in a fast-paced environmentExperience specifically with React (Clean Architecture) or AngularAI/ML experience preferredExperience6+ years of professional software development experience with the Java programming experience, Python or an OOP style language4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks3+ years of experience with architecture and design3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud serviceEducationBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experienceAnnual Salary$110,000.00 - $236,500.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate.
