The Senior Manager Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a pivotal leadership position within the Agile Release Train (ART), which consists of multiple teams working collaboratively to deliver valuable software solutions to Digital's customers. This role plays a crucial role in overseeing and executing Digital initiatives that generate significant business value and impact millions of consumers. RTEs are responsible for optimizing the flow of value within the train, ensuring that prioritized outcomes are delivered efficiently, within the minimum cycle time and of the highest quality. They share the train's goals and are accountable for continuous improvement, transparency, and communication regarding the ART's delivery, risks, and achievements. In addition, RTEs drive train processes and provide necessary support to teams, coaching them in Scrum, Kanban, and the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). Collaborating with peers and functional leads, RTEs contribute to improving the operational health of the train. They play a crucial role in identifying areas where assistance is required and determining the best approach to leverage Digital's resources to address them. This includes analyzing and interpreting operational health metrics (such as flow and maturity), identifying areas for improvement, and informing action plans while monitoring and adjusting results accordingly.Key stakeholders that the individual in this role will interact with daily:

Serves as ART’s central point of communication and coordination for all teams involved in delivering the work, including SAFe trains, agile teams, waterfall teams, vendor partners, and suppliers. Manages and streamlines ART meetings, Agile ceremonies, and quarterly release planning activities, while optimizing the flow of value through the ART using tools like the Program Board, Kanban Boards, and scorecards.Plans and facilitates the train's Planning Increment (PI) planning events, partnering with train leads to establish a more continual planning cadence and ensuring teams are prepared for each planning session. Adjusts the implementation of these events to effectively meet the train's planning requirements.Ensures prioritization alignment, resolves conflicts, and clears cross-team/ART-level impediments and risks so the train delivers commitments and realizes business value. Emphasis on problem-solving.Allocates and monitors resource allocation, in partnership with Product operations and finance, to support agile budget management and forecasting for people associated with the ART.Tracks and reports on progress of epic, feature, etc. using appropriate tools (Rally, etc.) across the train and with solution/portfolio senior leadership and business partners.Reviews, interprets, and socializes the train operational health metrics (i.e., flow, maturity, proficiency). May support the building/refinement of new metrics needed.Collaborates with Product and Finance for capitalization of work delivered within Program Increments.Is the source of energy that drives relentless improvement and fosters innovation while promoting information sharing and collaboration.Significantly improve quality and flow across the train by responding to provided efficiency suggestions/feedback and deriving insights from metrics (in partnership with other roles).Sets the tone in shaping the train’s culture, fostering an environment for high-performing team dynamics, continuous flow, relentless improvement, and fun.Strategically brings in coaches to help train leaders, team leads, and team members mature their agile and lean execution skills as teams of teams.Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience working with Lean- Agile methodologies in a large organization using Scrum, XP, Kanban, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), or other scaling models.5+ years of experience as an RTE, Scrum Master, Product Owner, or Agile Project/Program Manager.3+ years of experience demonstrating the ability to facilitate planning and solutioning sessions.Preferred Qualifications
Synthesize data and agile metrics from multiple sources and use that information to develop insights on train’s status.Experience using Agile best practices, i.e., burn-down charts, different retrospective formats, defect management, user stories, ATDD, TDD, BDD, CI/CD, automated testing, etc.Able to lead without “Command and Control” style (servant leadership), empathetic.Having a strong technical aptitude and showing a willingness to innovate, evaluate, pivot and adapt.Experience with consumer-facing digital products, building platforms and collaborating with User Experience (UX) designers, researchers, architects, content strategists, and leaders.Proactive, problem-solving approach – someone who offers solutions not problems for others to solve. Comfortable jumping in as needed to support the Train.Program Management experience in the Retail, Digital, Healthcare or PBM (Pharmacy Benefits Management) industry.Advanced understanding of lean-agile principles/mindset and SAFe principles/core values, including Lean UX, User Centered Design, and Design Thinking.Experience with Agile collaboration tools such as CA Rally, Confluence, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, etc.Certified SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), SAFe Release Train engineer (RTE) certification, SAFe Scrum Master certification, or another scrum master or agile coaching certification.Education

The typical pay range for this role is: $106,605.00 - $213,200.00. This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
