Position Function:

Assist the classroom teacher with instruction of basic academic skills to students and perform tasks as identified by Kansas State Department of Education, the Wichita Public Schools, and the curriculum established at the site. Discuss assigned teaching area with the classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts. Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aides, such as books, graphs, charts, or other teaching tools to stimulate learning. Present subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques, such as lecture, discussion, and supervised role play. May be required to administer and grade examinations. Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts. Assist in maintaining order in the classroom and on the playground. Provide lessons as instructed by the teacher in a specific subject area, such as English, mathematics, reading, writing, and social skills. Confer with other staff members to plan programs designed to promote educational, physical, and social development. Observe, evaluate, and prepare reports on the progress of students. Must have an understanding of educational tools and be able to operate equipment designed for providing education. Provide a safe and healthful environment for students and staff. This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines. Must always comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use.Travel:
