Job Description
Summary:We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile IT Systems Administrator to manage and support our hybrid IT environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Office 365 administration, VMware on-premises server management, and expertise in supporting both Ubuntu and Windows laptops. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, security, and optimization of our IT infrastructure across multiple platforms and devices.
Essential Duties and Functions Key Responsibilities:
Office 365 Administration:
Manage Office 365 tenant, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive.
Administer user accounts, security groups, and permissions within Office 365.
Monitor and ensure the security of Office 365 services, including email filtering and multi-factor authentication.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Office 365 applications and services.
VMware On-Premises Server Management:
Install, configure, and maintain VMware ESXi hosts and vSphere environments.
Perform regular backups and disaster recovery planning.
Monitor server performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement necessary patches and updates.
Manage virtual machines (VMs), storage, and network configurations within VMware environments.
Ubuntu & Windows Laptop Support:
Provide comprehensive support for both Ubuntu (Linux) and Windows laptops, ensuring seamless operation and security.
Install and configure operating systems, drivers, and software applications.
Perform system updates, security patches, and ensure system compliance with company policies.
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues on both platforms.
Network & Security Management:
Assist in managing network devices (firewalls, switches, routers) and ensuring a secure and efficient network infrastructure.
Monitor and enforce IT security policies, including firewall rules, anti-virus, and endpoint protection.
Implement and manage VPNs, remote access, and secure communication protocols.
General IT Support:
Provide tier 2/3 support for end-user technical issues related to hardware, software, and networking.
Collaborate with vendors for hardware and software procurement, maintenance, and support.
Document IT processes, systems configurations, and troubleshooting guides.
Assist in IT infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and new technology implementations.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 3-5 years of experience as an IT Systems Administrator or in a similar role.
Hands-on experience with Office 365 administration.
Proficient in managing VMware vSphere environments and virtualized infrastructure.
Strong expertise in supporting both Ubuntu (Linux) and Windows laptops.
Experience with network management and security protocols.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy management.
Familiarity with bash scripting and Linux command-line utilities for Ubuntu.
Proficiency with backup solutions, disaster recovery strategies, and data integrity practices.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Certifications (preferred but not required):
VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator.
CompTIA Linux+ or equivalent Linux certification.
CompTIA Network+ or Security+.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly to remain in a stationary position. The employee will be required to operate a computer and will consistently use other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. as necessary.
The employee must possess the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
The employee will frequently move, transport, position, install, and or remove equipment of at a minimum of 50 pounds for various needs.
The employee must possess the ability to observe details at close range.
The employee must be able to ascend/descend a ladders and maneuver in tight spaces.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The IT Systems Administrator will spend part of the day working at their own desk but will likely move about the building frequently as they address issues with others’ computers and systems. You will also support employees remotely, off-site and testing locations. You will be required to answer incoming calls, messages, and emails to perform installations, configurations, updates, and troubleshooting. In this job, you may be required to travel domestically and internationally.
Generally, this employee will maintain standard office hours but will be required to work early-morning hours, evenings, and weekends when necessary.
