At Habitat, we believe data drives everything we do – from fundraising, event planning, solicitation of volunteers, advocacy for safe and affordable housing, partnerships, and government/grant programs to engage, serve, and support our constituents. As such, we are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Management Team. The primary responsibility in this role includes managing and optimizing Habitat’s enterprise data systems. This role is ideal for someone with extensive experience in data management, a strong background in computer science, and excellent communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Troubleshooting and Optimization: Troubleshoot data-related issues and continuously optimize data systems for better performance. (25%)

Data Pipeline Management: Develop and oversee data pipelines that ensure smooth data flow from various sources to storage and processing systems (20%)

Design and Build Data Systems: Create and maintain Habitat’s data systems, databases, and data warehouses to store and manage large volumes of data (20%)

Collaboration: Work closely with Director of Data Management, data architects, data analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data needs and implement approved data solutions (20%)

Data Compliance and Security: Ensure that data systems comply with security standards and regulations, protecting sensitive information. (10%)

Team Guidance: Provide technical guidance in best practices and project execution. (5%)

Note: % of time commitment will fluctuate based on product need

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree (Related Technical Discipline)

6+ years hands on experience in data engineering, data system development, or related roles

Requirements:

Familiarity with multiple data architecture design patterns

Ability to build, maintain and improve data architecture, data collection and data storage systems

Ability to write and interpret code/support the Agile teams as needed

Proficiency in ETL/ELT technologies with focus in Microsoft technology stack

Extensive programming experience of data processing languages (SQL/T-SQL, Python, Java, JavaScript)

Strong computer science background and knowledge of software development methodologies

Proficiency in cloud delivery models, cloud platforms, cloud storage, data streaming, and data frameworks (SaaS/DaaS/PaaS/IaaS, Azure, microservices, Dmbok2, TOGAF)

Strong skills in relational databases and data warehousing

Familiarity with big data tools such as Kafka, Spark, Hadoop

Expertise in code management utilizing GitHub/Visual Studio

Experience utilizing productivity tools with specialty utilizing Jira

Experience with DevOps practices, configuration frameworks and CI/CD automation tooling

Soft Skills:

Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Effective in working both independently and within a team

Diligent, rigorous, and collaborative

Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Preferred – in addition to minimum:

Certification in Data Engineering preferred

Certified SAFe 6 Practitioner

Experience with large-scale enterprise transformations

Proficiency in data visualization (Power BI, Tableau, MS Excel)

Experience working with Kubernetes

Experience working in a matrixed organization

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance. For work locations in the US, the hiring range for this position is $86,700 to $102,000.
