Department: IT Teaching & Learning Technology (TLT)Position Title: eLearning Support Specialist- KU Information TechnologyJob Family Group: Professional StaffJob Description Summary: This position is a member of the Teaching & Learning Technologies (TLT) unit within KUMC Information Technology Services (KITS) and works closely with the TLT Faculty Support team to develop and manage electronic educational content and to provide day-to-day technical guidance and support for the systems that deliver this content.Key Roles and Responsibilities
Work with the Assistant Director for Online Learning and Senior Instructional Designers to develop, manage and support electronic educational content in a variety of systems: Blackboard Learn, Panopto, ExamSoft, Blackboard TDM, and Respondus among others.Provide day-to-day guidance, support and troubleshooting for the various teaching and learning technologies used by the university.Support faculty and students in the effective use of web conferencing (Zoom, Microsoft Teams) for teaching and learning.Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Online Learning and Senior Instructional Designers to develop and implement successful instructional design processes.Assist the Senior Instructional Designers with upkeep of Blackboard Learn and TDM courses.Serve as a member of the Faculty Support team in TLT. Support and participate in cross-training efforts to maximize unit efficiency and provide coverage of services during peak loads and absences.Provide training to faculty through workshops, webinars, video tutorials, etc. covering topics related to online learning, course design, and the effective use of technology in instruction.Collaborate with staff across TLT as well as with faculty and academic/technical support staff in other university departments.Remain current on education and technology news, developments, and tools.Perform other TLT tasks as assigned.Work Environment
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not usually subject the employee to any unpleasant elements.Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in educational technology, education, instructional design, curriculum and instruction, or related field. A combination of education and relevant work experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.Work Experience: Strong communication as evidenced by application materials.Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in educational technology, education, instructional design, curriculum and instruction, or related field.One or more years of experience as an instructional designer including work that demonstrates the application of instructional design principles and learning theory.Experience supporting faculty, staff, and students, preferably in a higher education setting.Ability to develop accessible online content using a variety of development tools (i.e., Microsoft Office, HTML, Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia, Raptivity, Panopto, AR/VR, etc.)At least one year of experience directly supporting content in an online learning management system (i.e., Blackboard, Canvas, D2L, Moodle, etc.)At least one year experience supporting users of web conferencing technologies (i.e. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, etc.)Experience training others in the effective use of technology.Skills
Ability to learn new technologies quickly and meet department deadlines.Interpersonal and problem-solving skills.Ability to work in a professional and collaborative team environment.Required Documents
