Our world-class Space Avionics systems include equipment for Mars Rover/Landers/Orbiters, Launch Vehicles, and Imaging Satellite Communications.Job Description:We are currently seeking a Lead RF Communications Engineer with experience in RF electrical design, requirement development, RF modeling, material measurement, and RF testing and integration to join our Space & Sensors Team. You will have the opportunity to work on various programs solving our customer’s most difficult technical challenges on cutting-edge and world-class Space Avionics systems, including Mars Rover/Landers/Orbiters, Space Launch System vehicles, Moon Missions, and Imaging Satellite Communications equipment.The RF Communications Lead will be the technical lead of the program team, perform technical planning, system integration, validation and verification, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total RF communication systems. Analyses are performed at all levels to include concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal. Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total RF systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Recent experience with modulators, amplifiers, oscillators, filters, high-frequency packaging, and RF test equipment is required.Essential Functions:Be a Subject Matter Expert in RF Communications for Space Communication programs.Lead RF design team at the circuit level to ensure compliance with unit and system-level requirements.Lead technical planning, system integration, validation, and verification activities in support of programs and development efforts for the Space RF portfolio.Complex Problem Solving — Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.Judgment and Decision Making — Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate solution.Systems Analysis — Determine how an RF system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes particularly in terms of spectral performance and data error rate performance.Systems Evaluation — Identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance relative to the goals of the system.Customer Interaction – Technical Point of Contact to our customers and our suppliers.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Physics, or related Engineering discipline with a minimum of 9 years of experience as a Systems Engineer or Graduate/Master’s Degree with a minimum of 7 years prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience designing, developing, testing, and delivering RF circuits and electronic units and have a comprehensive understanding of electronic components, methodology, and circuits.Experience leading a technical team with multiple engineering disciplines.Ability to obtain a security clearance from the U.S. Government which requires U.S. Citizenship.Preferred Additional Skills:Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well within and outside of the organization including customers, vendors, and leadership with minimal oversight.Prior systems engineering experience on at least five programs, with at least one program being a medium scale complex system or subsystem.Demonstrated experience in the architecture, specification, implementation, simulation, test, verification, validation, and debugging of digital-based units, systems, avionics systems, and/or control systems.Demonstrated experience with microwave circuit designs for high-bandwidth upconverters, mixers, drivers, and power amplifiers at UHF, S-, X-, and/or Ku-band ranges.Demonstrated experience with modulators, amplifiers, oscillators, filters, high-frequency packaging, and RF test equipment.Demonstrated complex problem solving and decision making — Able to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions; able to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate solution.System test and evaluation requirements development experience is a requirement.Knowledge of military and/or NASA component specifications, design processes, and hardware test/verification procedures.
