Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesLead the project development process for roadway/highway projectsTrack effort and manage resourcesOrganize and coordinate design elements with teaming partnersProvide professional mentoring of EITs and DesignersLead the development of schematic design and PS&E in TexasSupport other teams when needed to accomplish company milestones.Generate responses and material for SOQ's and RFP'sActive participation in professional organizationsPlan, schedule, conduct, provide oversight or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scopeAnalyze field survey data, maps, drawings, aerial photography and other topographical data to plan projectsValidate design computationsDesign projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software like Bentley's ORDDevelop construction cost estimatesAssist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and constructionPrepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimatesManage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplinesDevelop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposalsAttend meetings with clientsCoordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established qualityNonessential Functions and ResponsibilitiesPerform other related duties as assigned to help meet the goals and objectives of the department.Required SkillsAbility to collaborate in a team environmentStrong desire to prepare quality plans efficientlyWillingness to learn and desire to teachShare working knowledge of best practicesExcellent written and oral communication skills are paramountStrong sense of time management and ability to prioritize tasksWillingness to support the design and production of plansAbility to manage concurrent projectsRequired ExperienceBachelor of Science in Civil EngineeringProfessional Engineer License (Texas)5-10 years of Highway Design ExperienceEstablish project specific design criteria meeting Client standardsUse Microstation, Geopak, and/or OpenRoads Designer to generate roadway horizontal and vertical alignmentsDesign and develop cross sections, and/or 3D modelsUtilize the TMUTCD to develop traffic control plans, and signing and marking layoutsDesign and prepare SW3P plansExperience generating plans, specifications, and estimates for highway/roadway projects for TxDOT and other government agencies.Proficient with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel & Outlook. MS Project)Working ConditionsWork is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
