The Registered Nurse - NICU cares for newborn babies who are delivered pre-term or at-term newborns who experience complications at the time of birth. The Registered Nurse - NICU provides intensive around-the-clock care, including both medical needs and basic daily care activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care of the neonatal patient and coordinates with healthcare team membersCares for infants transitioning to extrauterine lifeProvides age and culturally appropriate care to patientProvides nutritional assessment & specialized feedingsChanges dressings, inserts catheters, starts IVsProvides arterial & intravenous therapyMonitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, such as incubators and ventilatorsAssists NICU Physician during examination, treatment and procedures, which can include lifesaving measuresParticipates in discharge planningAssesses signs and symptoms indicating changes in patient's condition, documents changes and informs physician/charge nurseCollects, analyzes, and interprets data and information from health care members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnosesIdentifies and prioritizes actions based upon patient care requirementsPerforms interventions according to identified priorities, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standardProvides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patient/family environmentInitiates and evaluates family educationDocuments and revises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventionsParticipates in activities to facilitate good interpersonal communications with facility • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
Current Registered Nurse license for the state in which the nurse practicesOne year NICU experience requiredNRP card per contract requirementComplies with all relevant professional standards of practiceParticipation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable to job siteUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirementsAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of age
