The Registered Nurse - NICU cares for newborn babies who aredelivered pre-term or at-term newborns who experience complications at the timeof birth. The Registered Nurse - NICU provides intensive around-the-clock care,including both medical needs and basic daily care activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement andevaluate patient care of the neonatal patient and coordinates with healthcareteam membersCares for infants transitioning to extrauterine lifeProvides age and culturally appropriate care to patientProvides nutritional assessment & specialized feedingsChanges dressings, inserts catheters, starts IVsProvides arterial & intravenous therapyMonitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients,such as incubators and ventilatorsAssists NICU Physician during examination, treatment and procedures,which can include lifesaving measuresParticipates in discharge planningAssesses signs and symptoms indicating changes in patient'scondition, documents changes and informs physician/charge nurseCollects, analyzes, and interprets data and information fromhealth care members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnosesIdentifies and prioritizes actions based upon patient carerequirementsPerforms interventions according to identified priorities,and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standardProvides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patient/familyenvironmentInitiates and evaluates family educationDocuments and revises the plan of care according toevaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursinginterventionsParticipates in activities to facilitate good interpersonalcommunications with facility •Performs other duties as assigned/necessaryMinimum Requirements:
Current Registered Nurse license for the state in which thenurse practicesOne year NICU experience requiredNRP card per contract requirementComplies with all relevant professional standards ofpracticeParticipation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob siteUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirementsAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of ageBenefits
